Who hasn't heard of Adam Paul Scott, the actor behind the enigmatic Mark Scout in Severance? Born on April 3, 1973, the 51-year-old actor first rose to fame as Ben Wyatt in Perks and Recreation. In Severance, Adam Scott plays Mark, an obedient employee of the Lumon industries, with a microchip in his brain that separates his memories within the office (Innie) and outside (Outie).

In the debut season of Severance, the lead actor Adam Scott was nominated for six awards for the Best Actor role, including a Primetime Emmy and SAG. He won a Webby Award for Best Actor for the same. But do you know that when Adam Scott was cast for the Apple TV series, he was quite nervous? In a 2022 interview with the Guardian, Adam Scott said,

"It's been the best gig of my life. The most demanding one too. I felt the weight and pressure to make sure the show didn't crash."

Crafted by Dan Erickson, Severance, a sci-fi psychological thriller, debuted on February 18, 2022, on Apple TV. Since its debut, the series has received steady ratings and widespread acclaim due to its unique concept, story, and star-studded performances.

The Apple TV series Severance is based on a unique plot where Lumon Industries employees undergo a procedure to separate their work and personal lives. However, as the storyline proceeds, the Lumon Industries employees, including Mark, come to realize the major drawbacks of the weird setting and its impact on their loved ones.

The Severance lead actor was also a part of several projects, including Step Brothers (2008), Big Little Lies(2017), Madame Web (2024), Party Down (2009), and Inside Job (2022), to name a few. However, Adam Scott believes that playing Mark Scott was different from the other projects he did in the past. He told Guardian,

"Beacuse it's one of the only times I've been in something where, if I sucked, the whole thing wouldn't work. Other times I can suck and it wouldn't make much difference."

Adam Scott also revealed about playing a double role in Severance, one as Mark Outie and another as Mark Innie, he told the Guardian,

"The lines can be blurry because it's the same person, I guess. Same guy, different hats. The people are separate, but what one does affects the other."

In an interview with The Wrap, Adam Scott revealed his technique of playing both Innie and Outie Mark. Both the Marks portrayed different personalities: Innie Mark was the smart and confident head of MDR at Lumon Industries, while Outie Mark was a widow. He mentioned,

"It was sort of this constant math problem to be working in throughout the season."

In an interview with Forbes, Adam Scott revealed how he enjoyed playing Mark in Severance. He said,

"From the first time I read the script for Severance, I felt like it was everything I'd ever wanted to do, acting wise"
