On Shark Tank season 13 episode 2, Ellen Hodges and Omaya Atout were seeking $400k for 10% of their business, Songlorious. The founders explained that through their website, customers could customize their songs and choose genres. Each acoustic 30-second song cost $45, and the fully-produced three-minute songs range from $200 onwards.
Ellen and Omaya shared they had made $1.1 million from their business. Shark Tank investors Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, and guest shark Peter Jones were competing to secure a deal with the Songlorious founders. Lori saw this and said:
"I'm feeling very left out all of a sudden."
However, soon the three sharks alongside Daymond John decided to place a combined offer of $500,000 for 40% equity identifying the potential of the business. This deal was accepted by the Songlorious founders.
Four Shark Tank investors made a joint offer to Songlorious founders
Guest Shark Peter Jones understood that the Songlorious founders didn't have much experience in expanding their business and needed guidance in marketing as well. With the sales they both had generated through their business idea, Jones identified the future potential and how "huge" this could be "particularly for weddings." He said:
"I get the feeling and sense that you're not business people that's why you're here, you need help to get that. Any idea where this could get to? Your website and the technology that you're using, it is absolutely vital to get that right. But I think with the right backup in terms of technology I think this could be huge, particularly for weddings."
Initially, Jones, Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, and Daymond John placed separate offers but then decided to place a combined offer of $500,000 for 40% equity. Cuban shared that he could bring value to the business by enhancing the technology aspect, adding to the growth further. The Shark Tank investor said:
"With what's happening in artificial intelligence you've seen you know emulated voices that sound really really good."
Kevin on the other hand stated he would bring his experience and expertise to the business, which would mean Songlorious' competitors wouldn't stand a chance. He continued:
"I'm huge in the wedding industry obviously but I like Cuban's technology idea and he owns that company as a piece how about we partner Cuban and I fifty-fifty."
Then, Daymond and Jones also joined both the sharks, explaining that four sharks onboard would help Songlorious become the next big thing. Cuban could sense the founders were hesitant to agree to give this much equity so he elaborated that they still owned the majority of their business.
"You've got four people who touch every base so that makes it a home run."
Towards the end of the episode, Ellen Hodges and Omaya Atout countered $800,000 for 40% equity to which Shark Tank investor Jones stated the founders were being "too greedy." After evaluating the situation more clearly, both founders accepted the offer and secured a deal. As of October 2023, the company was valued at $3 million and continued to grow.
