FBI season 7 returns after its mid-season hiatus on January 28, 2025. It has been a few weeks since we last saw the officers on screen, as the previous episode aired on December 17, 2024.

In FBI season 7, episode 8, Riptide, the FBI officers investigate a gold heist at an airport that leaves multiple customs officers dead. Meanwhile, Omar Adom has his own struggles as he comes across an old friend who ends up betraying him.

By the end of the episode, the team succeeds in their mission, while OA faces a heartbreak and finds solace in Maggie. Here is the complete recap of FBI season 7 episode 8.

FBI season 7 episode 8 recap: a dangerous heist at the airport

FBI season 7, episode 8 begins with a deadly heist at an airport. Three customs officers are killed during a robbery where thieves steal gold bars worth $25 million. The team quickly starts looking for suspects and comes across Danny Chun, a hedge fund manager who pushed his company to invest in gold.

Since the value of gold had recently dropped, Chun would have gained from claiming insurance money if the gold was stolen. The FBI also questions Caleb Boyles, another employee at the hedge fund who was in deep debt. However, when neither man confesses, the case takes a different turn.

The team identifies Samuel Baptiste, a Haitian rebel, as one of the gunmen. When the agents find him, they discover that Baptiste and his entire group have been killed by another crew. Chun is among the dead, which confirms he had been helping the thieves.

FBI season 7 episode 8 recap: Clay betrays the team

To figure out what happened, OA asks for help from his old army friend, Clay Voss, who now works as a private contractor. Clay once saved OA’s life during a dangerous mission in Afghanistan, and hence the special agent trusts him.

However, Maggie does not trust Clay and warns OA not to rely on him. The agent ignores her concerns as he feels he owes Clay for saving his life. The investigation soon reveals that the second group behind the killings is a team of Suffolk County police officers.

These officers were furious because their pensions had been wiped out due to poor investments made by Chun’s hedge fund. They decided to take revenge by stealing the gold themselves.

The FBI sends Clay undercover to gather information since using a federal agent could expose their operation. However, Clay sees this as an opportunity to take the gold for himself. He kills one of the corrupt officers and tries to flee with the stolen gold.

FBI season 7 episode 8 recap: OA suffers from guilt and heartbreak

When the FBI arrives at the scene, OA confronts Clay. The private contractor begs OA to let him escape and tries to emotionally manipulate him by reminding him how he saved his life. However, OA refuses to let him go and is forced to shoot and kill him, marking the end of their years-long friendship.

After the mission, OA struggles with guilt and heartbreak over killing his friend. He realizes that his loyalty to Clay blinded him to the man he had become. However, this brings him closer to Maggie. They lean on each other for support as Maggie's adopted daughter, Ella, decides to leave them to live with her biological family.

FBI season 7 episode 9 will be released on CBS on January 28, 2025.
