Yellowjackets is a survival thriller set in the '90s that follows a group of teenagers who unwittingly fall victim to a plane crash and are forced to survive in the wilderness. The first two seasons of the Showtime thriller became hugely popular.

As the third season of Yellowjackets arrives on February 14, 2025, with the first two episodes on Paramount+ with Showtime, speculation is at an all-time high regarding the direction in which the upcoming season's narrative arc might proceed.

Several fans of Yellowjackets have taken to the social media platform Reddit to voice their fan theories about what they expect to come to fruition in the upcoming third season. From one theory that identifies the character of Shauna as the one who created the warring cannibalistic clans, to the trial of coach Ben and the astounding possibility of there being no adult survivors, here's taking a look at three such theories developed by the fans of Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets season 3: Fan theories explored

Heading into the third season of Yellowjackets, here are the three fan theories posted on the subreddit r/Yellowjackets by u/Fit_Apartment4242 that try to make sense of the survival thriller's narrative possibilities. Keep reading to learn more.

1) Shauna is the one who creates the "warring cannibalistic clans"

The first fan theory speculates that Shauna might be the bonafide villain of the third season, given that she has already lost quite a lot on the show. The theory goes:

"In S3, Shauna will be in her villain arc, having lost so much and her anger for not being chosen as the leader. She'll try to usurp Natalie's leadership and call her out for keeping Ben's hiding place a secret, forcing Nat to be demoted or exiled, allowing her to be the leader. After a while though, Shauna's role as a leader doesn't go great, with some wanting to side with Nat. This causes a divide and in turn creates the two clains with Shauna as the leader of one clan with Tai being a member, and Nat (reluctantly) being the leader of the 2nd clan."

If this theory were to be true, Shauna would be the one responsible for the subsequent infighting among the survivors.

2) There are no more adult survivors

This second theory states that things don't go well for Ben after he's put on trial for setting fire to the cabin:

"Ben will be put on trial for being accused of setting fire to the cabin. It's not going to go well for him, and the only people to defend him are Misty and Nat, with the rest siding against him for the fact that he was essentially useless in s2. I can see Shauna making the argument that at the time of her labor, he didn't bother to help and just went in the other room. They then kill him off, but realize much later that he actually wasn't the person who set fire to the cabin (my money's on Other Tai), adding on to the list of things the adult survivors are guilty about."

3) Ben is on trial

The third Yellowjackets fan theory doesn't see the adult survivors such as Akilah Mari, Gen, Ben, and Melissa making it out alive.

"Based on the way things are going, I just don't see any possibility that Mari, Akilah, Gen, Melissa, Ben etc. are making it out alive. Mari with the pit-girl accusations (more on that) and her hallucinations possibly foreshadowing her death, Akilah adds on to the members who are still tied to their pre-crash life, not a good sign. Gen and Melissa are there . . ig. Although it seems that Melissa will have a much larger role in the teen timeline, but I don't think Hilary Swank plays adult Melissa."

Yellowsjackets season 3 will premiere on February 14, 2025, on Paramount, followed by its availability on Showtime on February 16.
