In a rather heartbreaking turn of events, it has now been confirmed that neither Wanda Vision nor Agatha All Along would be returning for a second season. As revealed by actress Patti LuPone, who portrayed Lilia Calderu, Wanda Vision creator and showrunner Jac Shaeffer has categorically denied making the second installment of the two shows.

Ever since it's debut, Wanda Vision went on to achieve massive success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Scarlett Witch-led show subsequently allowed the inclusion of Wanda Maximoff in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. On the other hand, it also paved the way for Agatha All Along, focusing on Wanda Maximoff's arch nemesis.

Patti LuPone recently spoke with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM podcast named Andy Cohen Live, in which she revealed Jac Shaeffer's decision not to return to the two above-mentioned shows. LuPone stated:

"Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season...' (Schaffer) said, ‘I don’t do second seasons. She said, ‘They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”

Here's everything that we know about Jac Shaeffer's approach to the two shows and what were her inspirations.

Jac Shaeffer opens up on her approach to Wanda Vision and Agatha All Along

Showrunner Jac Shaeffer came to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after slowly working her way through independent film projects. Speaking in an interview with Script in September 2024, Shaeffer opened up about the approach she had while writing the screenplays of Wanda Vision and Agatha All Along. She commented:

"In Wanda Vision, we put Agatha on ice under a spell. So I knew that in approaching Agatha, I wanted to carry forward a lot of what was fun about WandaVision and appealing to fans. It was that immersive holistic embedding—going into a genre that was both fun for me creatively and for my colleagues and also fun for the audience."

She further added:

"That was the design early on; it was that we would meet Agatha at the top of Agatha All Along inside of the spell, but that it would be warped and it felt so right that Agatha's version of Westview would be dark and gritty and murdery and you know what I mean? We talked a lot in the room about that, that's so appropriate for her because she loves seeing the darkness in people. And I think if asked, she would be like, 'Yeah, the true crime obsession is indicative of the fact that humans are dark.' And we loved that for her."

Jac Schaeffer lists her inspiration behind Wanda Vision and Agatha All Along

In the same interview, Schaeffer presented a list of her references for the MCU shows. She commented:

"I mean, obviously The Twilight Zone is so, so tethered to WandaVision. I'm not explicitly a horror person. I am a genre person. I enjoy playing with the tropes of genre. So that's what this was for me... My touchstones for the show are like, Wizard of Oz and Labyrinth and Dark Crystal and The Never Ending Story and Princess Bride. That's the sort of deep down of it. And then the real horror stuff is more like a dollop here and a dollop there, where we get like legitimately scary."

Agatha All Along is exclusively available on Disney+.
