Starz's Outlander concluded its Season 7 with a shocking revelation, where Claire finds that her stillborn daughter Faith from Season 2 might have lived.

While this is not a canonical event from Diana Gabaldon's books, from which the fantastical series is adapted, it was a turning point for Claire in Season 7.

In the final moments of the Season 7 finale, Claire hears Fanny Pocock sing a 20th-century song she has once sung to her daughter, confirming she lived and is Fanny's mother. While the foreshadowing of this revelation was sprinkled throughout the finale, with Master Raymond apologizing to Claire in her fever dream, the reveal was shocking.

Since Outlander Season 8 is the final season of the show, it would be interesting to see how the character's backstory is explained. However, with such a significant revelation, Season 7 seemed to have opened a Pandora's box, and Faith's storyline might not add anything to Season 8, as Claire and Jamie can't be reunited with Faith (since it is hinted that she is now dead).

More on Faith's storyline in Outlander Season 8 in our story.

Faith's storyline in Outlander Season 8 might serve no purpose

Fans have witnessed the tragic death of baby Faith in Season 2 and how Jamie and Claire buried their stillborn child with much pain in their hearts. Even while the couple had a full life with their children and grandchildren, they always missed their daughter.

Everything changed with Season 7's shocking revelation, and Claire discovers that their daughter Faith might have lived after all, and she even shares this good news with her husband. While the news was good, albeit shocking, it might serve no purpose in Outlander Season 8 because, as revealed by Jane, Faith had long been dead even before the events of Season 7.

Faith's storyline would have made a much more substantial impact on the drama if she were alive and there was a possibility of her reunion with Claire and Jamie. Since the couple has always longed to see Faith, an emotional reunion in Outlander Season 8 would have been the perfect send-off.

While the show could still conjure up a twist and reveal that Faith is alive after all, and the couple would be reunited with their daughter, that would be a long stretch from the canon.

But since Faith is already dead, the Season 7 finale revelation has nothing much to add to Claire and Jamie's story, apart from the fact that their daughter lived.

What could Faith's storyline mean for Claire in Outlander Season 8?

While the Season 7 finale revelation alludes that Master Raymond resurrected Faith, this speculation could be false. Master Raymond was himself being tried for witchcraft when he met Claire in Season 2, which means he hardly had the time to resurrect Faith.

And even while he apologized to Claire (in her hallucinations) for something in the Season 7 finale, there is a chance that Outlander Season 8 expands on Claire's abilities as a magic healer from Gabaldon's canon.

In Gabaldon's books, Claire eventually realizes that she is a magic healer who possesses blue-light powers, which she even uses to bring back a stillborn twin to life in the ninth book. If Outlander Season 8 were to draw parallels from this canon event, it could be revealed that it was Claire who resurrected her daughter.

In Season 2, even after realizing that Faith is stillborn, Claire holds her in her lap for hours and prays (similar to what she did to the stillborn twin in Book 9). This moment could have very well resurrected Baby Faith without Claire's knowledge, and her daughter might have lived to later stumble upon Master Raymond.

If Outlander Season 8 were to go with this storyline, Faith's revelation in the Season 7 finale might be worth it after all, as it would reveal Claire's magic healing powers, fulfilling her potential as a healer in the series' finale.
