After featuring multiple time jumps and required flashbacks, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 finally ended with its finale episode titled The Gods of Guilt, similar to the book it has been adapted from. Following the intriguing legal drama, there have been doubts among fans about the origin of the narrative.

Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer isn't based on a true story and follows the narrative penned down by author Michael Connelly in his novel. However, the leading character, Attorney Mickey Haller, is inspired by a real-life attorney, David Odgen, from Los Angeles, and a Florida-based lawyer, Dan Daly.

As seen in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 1, Mickey Haller isn't a typical lawyer with a well-established office and is always busy with controversial cases. Instead, his office is at the back of his stunning Lincoln car, driven by his former client, who couldn't pay the debt.

Haller usually works on dru*g dealing and gangster cases. However, his life changes when he agrees to defend a wealthy real-estate agent, Julian La Cosse, accused of killing his former client. As the series progresses, Haller digs deeper into the case and uncovers the corruption in the justice system.

Netflix's acclaimed legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer has completed its three successful seasons, with the finale ending the long-running trial involving Mickey Haller's rich client. As mentioned above, the Netflix series follows the story from Michael Connelly's novels, which drew inspiration from two real-life lawyers, David Odgen and Dan Daly.

According to Netflix Tudum, David Odgen was a lawyer who inspired the idea of Mickey Haller working as an attorney at the back of his car. Odgen was a successful lawyer who passed away in 2020 at the age of 75. However, Odgen wasn't the only inspiration, as Connelly also took inspiration from another lawyer.

Author Michael Connelly previously worked with Dan Daly at the Daytona Beach News-Journal before he became a lawyer. Daly discussed Connelly taking notes when he shared his experience working on different cases. He told Tudum:

"Roger and I and other lawyers who joined us would tell war stories about cases we handled because that’s what lawyers do when they get together. Mike paid attention and took notes on napkins."

Dan Daly and his partner Roger Mills used to sit with Connelly at a bar in Florida and share their legal experiences. This helped the author learn more about the fast-paced life of lawyers and how they had to handle multiple cases.

While the real-life figures inspired the author, he added his unique touch to craft an engaging legal thriller. Daly revealed watching The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix and was intrigued to watch a resonating narrative.

As seen in the first season, Haller had taken up a big case of Julian La Cosse, who was accused of killing his former client, who turned out to be Haller's former client as well. When Haller digs deeper, he finds that Gloria's murder is also connected to a dr*g dealer.

The case gets complicated with time as the lawyer keeps on finding startling truths about the deceased woman and her life. Haller continues his quest to discover how Gloria engaged in the dr*g dealings by herself.

As the layers unravel, Mickey Haller learns about a DEA agent named James De Marco, who helped Gloria in her illegal activities. The killer is finally revealed in the finale of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 when LAPD detective Neil Bishop testifies in court.

He revealed that De Marco killed Gloria just to hide his corrupt practices while helping Gloria put Moya behind bars. Soon after his confession and exposing the corrupt practices in law enforcement, Bishop pulled out a gun and shot himself, leaving the courtroom stunned and speechless.

As Mickey Haller proves Julian's innocence, he is freed of all charges and can return to his life. However, Haller has to continue his work as a lawyer, and who knows if he will get another big case to solve.
