Shrinking is an American comedy-drama created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein. The series follows the life of Jimmy Laird, a therapist who can't help but be overwhelmed by his loss after the death of his wife. His misery causes him to become the worst version of himself as he fights with his daughter and other people, even himself, during therapy sessions.
Christa Miller plays Liz's character in Shrinking. No, she is not Jimmy’s sister but his neighbor. Liz sometimes comes across as nervous and overbearing to Jimmy, an empty nester. She took care of Jimmy's daughter Alice after his wife's death, and Jimmy was ostracised by his friends and family for this.
Shrinking premiered on Apple TV+ on January 27, 2023. To date, the show has been critically acclaimed for almost all of its performances, writing, humor, and loss. In March 2023, the show was renewed for a second season. The second season began airing on October 16, 2024, and a third season was greenlit the following day.
Everything to know about Liz’s character in Shrinking
In Shrinking, Liz is the neighbor of Jimmy and his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) and the wife of Derek, played by Ted McGinley. A lot of water has been poured into her character in the new series: she has invested in the catering business of a young veteran called Sean (Luke Tennie), she has just coped with Derek's retirement and is at the heart of all the relationships that were broken in the first series.
She forces Jimmy to be a father again with a mixture of sweetness and irritation. But when he does, Liz can hardly stay out of the way. This includes Gaby, who attacks Liz in an implicit, passive-aggressive battle. Liz's husband, Derek, is loving and casually funny.
Liz's complicated relationship with Gaby eventually evolves from mild dislike to friendship, inspired by the actresses' relationship. To help Jimmy behind his back, Liz follows Paul all over Pasadena, telling him what Jimmy has been up to and demanding that he do something about it.
