Everything you need to know about Ransom Canyon before its premiere on 17th April on Netflix

Ransom Canyon, the latest romantic series on Netflix, will premiere on the platform on April 17, 2025. The show will join other successful romantic shows currently available on the platform such as Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias.

Ransom Canyon is based on the book series with the same name, written by bestselling author Jodi Thomas. The project, which has been in development since 2021, will finally be coming to screens with Season 1.

April Blair, who is known for shows such as All American and Wednesday, created Ransom Canyon, for which she is also one of the executive producers. The show was shot in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Vegas.

The first two episodes of Ransom Canyon are directed by Amanda Marsalis of Ozark and The Umbrella Academy fame, while other directors who are also part of the show includes Michael Offer, David McWhirter and Meera Menon. The romantic series will have Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly lead an ensemble cast.

• Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland – He is the owner of an expansive Double K Ranch, who is reeling from the loss of his wife. He faces outside forces who are proving to be a threat to his life at the ranch.
• Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady – After spending sometime in New York where she was trying to pursue a career as a pianist, she comes back to Ransom Canyon on a new journey of self-discovery.

What is Ransom Canyon about?

The show is a romantic family drama. According to Netflix, Ransom Canyon will bring forth the generational struggle over a family land and the people involved. The story will also follow the lead characters of Staten and Quinn’s will-they-won’t-they romance.

According to the summary on IMDb,

“A romance-fueled family drama and contemporary western saga that charts the intersecting lives and loves of three ranching families set against the sweeping tundras and rolling rivers of Texas hill country.”

About the show, Blair shared through Netflix,

“I wanted to do something that felt big and escapist and had the romance, but also had the drama, and the mystery wrapped up in one package. Old Westerns did have a romance and drama to them, so it leans into a more bygone era Western.”

On completing the shoot, Minka Kelly had taken to Instagram to share her excitement for the upcoming show. She told Netflix,

“I hope audiences feel nourished in some way, like they just ate a warm, gooey chocolate cake. I hope they feel like they escaped whatever is going on in their lives and were stimulated emotionally, intellectually, in the mystery and eye candy... I hope they want to binge it.”

Ransom Canyon premieres on Netflix on April 17th, 2025.
