Rapper and actor LL Cool J has given a wonderful surprise to the fans of NCIS: Hawai'i with his unexpected return to season 3. The Grammy-winning rapper/producer was first introduced to NCIS: Los Angeles in 2009 and was part of the cast in all 14 seasons of the show.
Following his appearance in the Season 2 finale of NCIS: Hawai'i, the team confirmed LL Cool J’s role in NCIS: Hawai'i season 3.
LL Cool J has been portraying the fictional character of Sam Hanna for more than 10 years now. But what makes season 3 of the show different from the rest of his guest appearances is that fans got to see Sam outside his element.
Executive producers of NCIS: Hawai'i Matt Bosack, Jan Nash, and Christopher Silber expressed their excitement during a statement to announce LL Cool J reprising his role in season 3, stating,
"All of us at 'NCIS: Hawai'i' have been huge fans of LL Cool J for years and couldn't be more thrilled or honored to be adding his spectacular talent to our ohana for season three,"

The series NCIS: Hawai’i premiered on CBS in 2021, revolving around the Naval Criminal Investigation Services that operated outside Pearl Harbor. LL Cool J has previously starred as an agent for the Office of Special Projects in NCIS: Los Angeles.
After that, he also briefly appeared in the season 2 finale episode of NCIS: Hawai'i, where his appearance for season 3 was confirmed.
Sam Hanna had previously appeared in a crossover event during the last season of NCIS: Los Angeles, along with Tennant and other NCIS characters to look into the conspiracy involving Simon Williams.
Cool J's persona made an appearance in the season 2 finale of NCIS: Hawai'i, assisting Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) before her eventual departure for Venezuela.
Fans were probably happy to see the two agents together again, even though the most recent information about his return to the show indicated that Tennant did not get in touch with Hanna, which made his return unexpected.
How does Sam Hanna’s storyline end in the season?
Sam Hanna's plot comes to a dramatic climax on a cliffhanger. When Compound X, a lethal bioweapon, is discovered by Sam's elite team. They find themselves in a dire scenario when Sam's respirator gets destroyed, and he becomes infected.
Carla and her team race against time to develop a cure against the virus. This plot keeps each character on their toes, but the team successfully saves Sam by giving him the last dose of the antidote they successfully produced.
When Sam recovers completely, Jane leads him to a surprise party where he makes a toast to his team for their efforts and wishes; he says,
“When I first arrived on the Island, I think some of you may have been wary,But thanks to your boss Jane Tennant, that didn't last long and I'm truly honored to be thought of as part of your o'hana and thank you all from the bottom of my heart."
What's next for NCIS: Hawai'i
Earlier this year, CBS shocked its viewers, by announcing the cancellation of the fourth season of NCIS: Hawai’i. The show would be ending with only three installments, while the final episode of season 3 still left the viewers with some unanswered questions regarding the virus.
The reason for the cancellation was due to the fixed resonance that the show’s producers received from the fans. But not to be disheartened, NCIS: Hawai'i’s season three releases two new bonus episodes that have never been seen by the fans before.
These episodes will mostly cover the behind-the-scenes experience of the cast and the crew.
The show’s two bonus episodes will be available to the fans on October 8 in the form of a comprehensive DVD Box set that fans can order on Amazon. Preorders for the set will start soon for fans in the UK and US.
