Squid Game season 2 leaves some questions unanswered
Squid Game season 2 concludes on a high note but does not answer these lingering questions:
1) Will Gi-hun make it out alive?
Things are not looking good for Gi-hun at the end of Squid Game season 2. After leading a failed rebellion against the guards and the management, Gi-hun is left at the mercy of the Front Man.
His best friend, Jung-bae, is killed before his eyes, while his other friend, In-ho, the Front Man himself, fakes his death and returns to his controlling role. It now remains to be seen what would the Squid Game organizers do with Gi-hun.
They have kept him alive so far, but now that he has staged an open rebellion, it remains to be seen if he will make it out of the games alive. At the same time, it will also be interesting to see if he succeeds in his mission of stopping the games.
2) What are the Front Man’s motives?
After Oh Il-nam’s death, In-ho takes charge of the games. In the second season, not only does he control the games as the Front Man but also participates in them as Player 001. However, Squid Game season 2 does not answer what are his actual motives.
So far, the show has revealed that he is a former winner of the game. Meanwhile, his brother, Hwang Jun-ho, is on the lookout for him and now knows that he is involved in the deadly games. In the final season. the series needs to delve into his backstory and reveal what exactly he wants from the games.
3) Has Captain Park colluded with the game organizers?
Squid Game season 2 leaves the audience unsure about Captain Park’s real intentions. At first, he seems like a good guy, who rescues Jun-ho and helps him search for the secret island. However, his behavior becomes suspicious over time.
In the season finale, he gets caught while messing with a drone and kills a teammate to cover it up. This makes it seem like Park might be working with the game organizers or has his own secret plan.
It is possible that he is following orders from In-ho to mislead Jun-ho, or he might be involved in shady activities like transporting organs from the games. The next season will likely reveal what he is hiding.
4) Is Player 246 really dead?
During the Squid Game season 2 finale, Player 246, Kyung-seok, is shot by a guard after the failed rebellion. But the scene does not show the bullet hitting him, which leaves his fate uncertain. Some fans think that Guard 011, No-eul, might have been the one who shot him.
No-eul has shown she cares about Kyung-seok and his sick daughter. Earlier in the season, she returned his daughter’s lost hat and kept an eye on him during the games. Since she is also a skilled shooter, she might have aimed for a spot that would not kill him.
No-eul’s own story as a mother trying to find her child makes it likely she would want to protect Kyung-seok. Maybe she even has plans to help him escape. Whether he is alive or not will hopefully be revealed in season 3.
5) Why does Dae-ho get scared during the rebellion?
Dae-ho’s erratic behavior during the rebellion in Squid Game season 2 has left the audience confused. He says he is a former Marine, but instead of helping his team with ammunition, he runs off and hides. This does not make sense for someone with military training.
Dae-ho may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which might have caused him to freeze in fear during the fight. Another possibility is that Dae-ho lied about his past and the whole story about him being a Marine could be fake. The show will likely reveal more about Dae-ho’s past and his real story in season 3.
6) Will the games go on?
The future of the Squid Game tournament is unclear after the rebellion in season 2. Even though Gi-hun’s revolt failed, the games can not go back to normal without some consequences.
The rebellion has left the future of players like Hyun-ju and Dae-ho uncertain. The organizers might keep going with the games going as usual, bringing in new players, or they could restart the games from the beginning in the next season.
Squid Game season 3 will be released on Netflix in 2025 as per reports.
