As the premiere date for Daredevil: Born Again approaches, now might be a good time to look at Charlie Cox's appearances as The Man Without Fear in the MCU. In the first frame of the Netflix series, the character we see is Matt Murdock and not his masked vigilante alter-ego. It is only after the opening monologue that we see the vigilante.

The beloved and acclaimed Netflix series streamed on the streaming platform between 2015 and 2018. However, the series was canceled by Netflix a month after the third season streamed on Netflix in 2018, supposedly because of some rights issue just like they canceled Luke Cage the same year before. After Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Iron Fist followed suit.

Daredevil's cancellation was met negatively by fans who had grown to love Charlie Cox's iteration of Matt Murdock. They mounted an online internet campaign which finally bore fruit in 2021 with Spider-Man: No Way Home. After his appearance in the 2021 movie, a revival of the Netflix show, titled Daredevil: Born Again, was announced, with Cox's involvement announced at the 2022 Comic Con.

Charlie Cox's history as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again explained:

While not the first actor to play Daredevil in the live-action format, British actor Charlie Cox was the first to strike a chord with fans. It was finally in 2021 that we saw him return as Matt Murdock in No Way Home. But before that, Cox had portrayed the character in three seasons of the Netflix series titled "Daredevil", and was one of the protagonists in the 2017 team-up series The Defenders.

Season 3 of Daredevil is set right after the events of The Defenders. After the conclusion of season 3, fans had to wait for at least three years for the actor's return as Matt Murdock in the MCU. Here's a quick rundown of all his appearances as The Man Without Fear in the MCU:

Spider-Man: No Way Home

2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home is not but two-and-a-half hours of fan service. But even before the multiversal shenanigans of the movie, we get one major fan service at the 8:10 minute mark. Matt Murdock's first glorious return doesn't have the lawyer in his costumed Avatar. Instead, he serves as Happy's lawyer who manages to get Peter's charges dropped.

In the extended cut of the movie, he appears in another scene in which Charlie Cox's Matt represents Happy and advises his client to stop sweating.

She-Hulk

After appearing in December 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock appeared in the eighth episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which streamed on October 6, 2022. In that episode, Jen Walters represents Eugene Patilio/Leap-Frog who wants to sue Luke Jacobson, who supposedly provided Eugene with a malfunctioning super-suit.

However, Jacobson is represented by none other than Murdock himself, who successfully defends Jacobson in court. An angry Eugene Patilio abducts Jacobson and Daredevil tries to intervene. First She-Hulk and Daredevil have a small battle, but they sort out their differences after Jen finds that Matt Murdock is Daredevil and learns about his heightened senses.

After freeing Jacobson, Matt and Jen have a one-night stand. He appears in the closing moments of the next episode, which is also the series finale after Jen convinces the K.E.V.I.N. robot to include Murdock in the finale.

Echo

Echo is the last MCU appearance of Matt Murdock played by Charlie Cox before Daredevil: Born Again. His appearance in Echo is just a few minutes as he fights the titular character to a draw. Wilson Fisk is impressed with Maya Lopez/Echo, she went toe-to-toe with Daredevil and lived to see the day. The Echo finale sets Wilson Fisk becoming the new mayor in Daredevil: Born Again.
