Creature Commandos streamed its last episode on 9th January 2025. The Season 1 finale "A Very Funny Monster" packs in numerous bittersweet and heartbreaking moments in its 28-minute runtime. Despite concluding most of season 1's plotlines, the finale had a few easter eggs and references to other media spreads and DC lore.

Here are some of the different easter eggs and references peppered throughout the runtime of Creature Commandos Season 1 finale:

Ghost Rider:

Popular Marvel Ghost Rider has had two movies starring Nicholas Cage and he appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the opening moments, The Bride calls Doctor Phosphorus "Ghost Rider". This is not the only time The Bride refers to something outside the DC lore in this episode.

Doctor Phosphorus from Creature Commandos looks a lot like the bike-riding Marvel hero with a burning skull. Therefore, The Bride's nickname for Doctor Phosphorus is apt. Likewise, Marvel's 2021 Eternals had references to Batman and Superman. Similarly, the CW's Arrowverse had numerous references to Marvel properties like Spider-Man and X-Men throughout its run.

Disney Princess

In the closing moments of the Season 1 finale, The Bride confronts Princess Rostovic about the latter being the mastermind. It is revealed that the princess actually wanted to take over the world as Circe's vision suggested. The Bride describes Illana like this:

"A power-mad, sadistic, narcissistic, Disney princess who wants to destroy the world".

Until now, Creature Commandos portrayed Illana as a kind and innocent Disney Princess. Thankfully, The Bride shoots the princess dead before the latter can shoot her. However, moments before The Bride pulled the trigger, there is a unique easter egg about Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus author Mary Shelley.

Mary Shelley

Before killing Ilana, The Bride looks at the former's large collection of books. Of the countless books on the shelf, The Bride notably stops on a book titled Mathilda authored by Mary Shelley.

Shelley actually wrote Mathilda after Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus' publication in 1818, but it was published only in 1959. The plot of Mathilda is very similar to The Bride's backstory involving her creator, Victor Frankenstein.

Edward Mazursky

Both in the comics and DCU, Nina's father is still a scientist. In the comics, it is a bit different though. Scientist Myron Mazursky is Nina's adoptive father who adopted her in her amphibian form. However, he did not tell her about her adoption. He instead told her that Nina had an issue with her lungs at birth, and he had to transform her to help her.

Furthermore, in the original Creature Commandos comics, Myron was the team's founder. However, the series makes him her biological father, including his name, Edward Mazursky. The opening flashback of Creature Commandos Season 1 finale reveals that Nina has her lungs outside during birth. So, he transforms her into an aquatic being to help her breathe.

Star City

Season 1 finale reveals that Nina is a native of Star City, Green Arrow's home. The fictional Star City News also namedrops Blüdhaven and Metropolis. While we all know what Metropolis looks like thanks to the Superman trailer, it's exciting to see Star City and hear Blüdhaven's name too. In the comics, Blüdhaven is the home of Richard "Dick" Grayson/Nightwing, the first Robin.

King Shark returns

King Shark or Nanaue is a perfect fit for the Creature Commandos and probably will have a role to play in season 2. He was last seen in 2021's The Suicide Squad, voiced by Sylvester Stallone. However, here, the character is voiced by Diedrich Bader, who voiced The Dark Knight in 2008's animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

While Creature Commandos Season 2 is still years away, you can catch all seven episodes on Max. Also, the characters from the show may appear in live-action format too.
