Before he donned the hat of John Dutton and immortalized the character with his stellar performance, Kevin Costner had already made a name for himself as a country musician. As the lead singer of Kevin Costner & Modern West, he has toured globally.

Costner’s interest in music was inspired by his wife, Christine. In 2008, the band released their first record, Untold Truths. In 2020, the group released their fifth album, Tales from Yellowstone, which features songs that reflect his character, John Dutton.

Some of his songs featured on the show’s soundtrack include Dark Thoughts Ride, Heaven’s Gate, You Won’t See It Coming, and The Killer.

Costner has been associated with Yellowstone since its inception and remains the face of the series for many fans. However, he decided to leave the show during the fifth season and will not be seen in the final episodes.

“At the end of the day, all I can do is approach it with as much love and honesty as possible and hope that people can relate to it. I got the opportunity and I knew that if I didn’t try, I would really regret it one day. Music—especially country, folk, and Americana music—has been so important to me.”
