American Horror Story: Freak Show is the fourth series in Ryan Murphy's anthology of American Horror Stories.
The story is set in 1952 Florida and tells the story of the last carnival troupe in the US. The show marked some newcomers and a second outing for many previous AHS characters.
This was also a rare series episode in which almost all the AHS freak show characters die, leaving only three surviving heroes.
Let's look at all the major AHS freak show characters and what happened to them on the show.

Bette and Dot, Jimmy and Desiree were the only surviving characters on American Horror Story: Freak Show
Surprisingly, only three characters survive until the end of American Horror Story: Freak Show. They include Sarah Paulson's Bette and Dot Tattler, Angela Bassett as Desiree Dupree, and Evan Peters as Jimmy Darling.
After massacring almost all the AHS Freak Show characters, it looks like Dandy is invincible until Bette, Jimmy, and Desiree decide to team up and take him out. But not before having some last-moment fun first.
Bette finally convinced him that she was in love with him and wanted to marry him, ultimately drowning him in Houdini’s Famous Escape Tank.

Main characters who die in American Horror Story: Freak Show
Making it the season finale to have the most deaths, almost 20 main and recurring AHS freak show characters die in the series. Let's have a look at the major characters and how they died on American Horror Story: Freak Show-
1) Michael Chiklis as Wendell "Dell" Toledo
Dell, the Strongman, was Jimmy's father and Ethel's ex-husband. Nobody on the show deserved his fate more than this character.
Stanley blackmailed him into murdering one of the AHS freak show characters, Amazon Eve being the first. While he was unsuccessful in this mission, he finally killed Ma Petite.
He decides to hang himself but is saved by his wife. However, when he confesses to having murdered Ma, Elsa Mars fatally shoots and kills him.
2) Frances Conroy as Gloria Mott
Conroy played the character of Gloria, the sadistic Dandy's mother on American Horror Story: Freak Show. She recognizes her son's murderous streaks and attempts to get him to see a therapist to test his intelligence.
However, Dandy sees through her plan and gets angry with her. He pulls a revolver to his head, but when Gloria urges that she could never live without him, he turns the revolver towards her and kills her, adding her to another AHS freak show character death.
3) Emma Roberts as Maggie Esmerelda
Freak show marks her second appearance in the series as Maggie, Stanley's assistant who cons the other AHS freak show characters by pretending to be a fortune teller.
She begins a romance with Dandy but is unable to match his freak and sacrifices herself after she comes clean to Jimmy and the other characters. For an illusion, she agrees to be sawed in half by Chester on American Horror Story: Freak Show.
But instead, the trick turns out to be no illusion, and she dies after her body is sawed in half by Chester.
4) Finn Wittrock as Dandy Mott
The most satisfying death on American Horror Story: Freak Show was of Dandy Mott, the sadistic and spoiled man who used the ruse of a traveling carnival to satiate his violent impulses.
He killed almost all the AHS freak show characters apart from Bette, who he loved, Jimmy, who was not a part of the carnival, and Dessiere, who escaped.
He was finally drugged, chained, and drowned in a water tank by the only surviving characters on the show.
5) Kathy Bates as Ethel Darling
The bearded lady of Elsa’s troupe marked Bates' second appearance on American Horror Story: Freak Show. She was Jimmy's mother and made one of the most tragic deaths on the show.
While she was given only six months to live because of her cirrhosis diagnosis, she was stabbed by Elsa after she tried to comfort her loyalty. Elsa took Stanley's help to disguise Ethel's murder in the show.
6) Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars
Elsa is a talented singer and the leader of the trope in the show. Her legs are amputated below the knees. After she kills Ethel, she sells the trope and moves to Hollywood.
However, she learns about the Dandy massacre and decides to take her own life and summons Edward Mordrake on Halloween to kill her. While he kills her, she does not belong in his trope. She is later joined by other AHS freak show characters in the afterlife.

- Jyoti Amge as Ma Petite- She is murdered by Dell, who snapped her neck
- Ben Woolf as Meep- He is found dead in a prison cell, where possibly other prisoners beat him to death
- John Carroll Lynch as Twisty the Clown- fatally stabbed by Edward Mordrake and later joins his trope of curious spirits
- Patti LaBelle as Dora Ross- Dandy killed Dora by slashing her neck with a knife
- Matt Boomer as Andy-Dandy stabs and murders him, and eventually his body is dissolved in acid
- Gabourey Sidibe as Regina- On Dandy's offer, an investigation shoots and kills Regina in the head
- Christopher Neiman as Salty- He died of a stroke in his sleep
- Mat Fraser as Paul- Dandy's first victim, he is shot and killed by the American Horror Story: Freak Show character
- Drew Rin Varick as Toulouse- shot by Dandy
- Rose Siggins as Suzi- shot by Dandy
- Grace Gummer as Penny- Shot by Dandy
- Chrissy Metz as Ima- shot by Dandy
- Erika Ervin as Amazon- shot by Dandy
- Celia Weston as Lillian- died by decapitation
