Amazon Prime Video's latest series, Étoile, is Gilmore Girls' creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's newest venture, based on the world of the dance form ballet.
Palladino is best known for creating the American drama series Gilmore Girls, which debuted on The WB. She is also the creator of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which received 22 Emmy Awards.
A six-time Primetime Emmy Award winner herself, Palladino's latest venture is inspired by her 2012 ABC's Bunheads, which was canceled after just one season. Étoile, which is a French word meaning star, is also centered around ballet and will explore the difficulties and complexities of this declining dance form.

Amy Sherman-Palladino opens up on her new Ballet series Étoile
Sherman, a trained dancer herself, was disappointed after the cancellation of her 2012 ABC series Bunheads, which was also centered around Ballet. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she opens on how the 2012 show paved the way for Étoile:
“Bunheads gave us a little taste of the fun of being in that world on a smaller scale. I trained as a dancer, so I have been mystified that nothing has really come close to capturing the weirdness of the dance world. They’re an odd, amazing bunch of people.”
Palladino also revealed that her new series is inspired by Frederick Wiseman's documentary La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet, which beautifully captures this declining art form.
She also reflected on the growing decline of this art form due to various reasons, such as budget cuts and the COVID-19 pandemic. She hopes to revive this beautiful art form through her show and influence more people to choose it as a career path.
