Shark Tank investor Robert Herjavec is no stranger to success. He has been a business owner and an investor for a very long time. Migrating to Canada in his early teens and starting from scratch, Robert has always said that he had that drive.
However, in a recent interview with Lewis Howes, the Shark Tank investor opened up about the lies we tell ourselves. He says that they can create limiting beliefs. In this conversation, Robert talked about the biggest lie that he has told himself: that he has "made it."
Reflecting on his age, Robert says that he is 62 and often believes that he is at the end of his career. He claims that he knows other older, successful people who have started to slow down, which makes him think the same way. Talking about this, Robert says:
"The biggest lie I've been telling myself lately is that 'I've made it.' You know like I'm older now, I'm 62, and you think oh 'I'm kind of at the end of the road.'"
Shark Tank investor Robert Herjavec talks about creating something new
Robert Herjavec, the Shark Tank investor, is 62 right now. He starts the conversation by saying,
"There is a saying that the biggest lies in life we tell are the ones we tell ourselves."
When asked about what's the lie he has been telling himself lately, Robert says that it is the limiting belief of making it. It is because of how his network with a "lot of older people" is affecting his mindset.
He says that these people are now "coasting" and slowing down. This makes him think whether he is also at that stage or not. But redefining that thought process, Robert comes back and analyses that he has come so far.
Re-evaluating his perspective on the "end" narrative, Robert said:
"Because I know a lot of older people who are super successful and they are kind of in coasting and it begins to affect me and I kind if went a few months where I'm like 'yeah...'and then one day I'm like, 'Hang on a second.'"
Talking about how this changes his outlook on life and his age, Robert soon tells himself that he can "still do it again." He says:
"Age is a number, and there's lots of people that can start something at this age and I have more capital than I ever had. So, I think I can still do it again."
According to Robert, success is not finite and can be achieved anytime. He says he could still start something new and make it work, given his experience in the business industry and the advantage of having a strong financial foundation.
What the Shark Tank investor highlighted during the interview is that success is an ongoing process. In another one of his Instagram videos, Robert shared that Mark Cuban has three jets.
He compared himself to the size and number of Mark's jets, but realized that his success was never about buying jets. Instead, he became successful because he wanted to improve his standard of living.
Robert revealed that his family had migrated to Canada with just $20. He had to work his way up and make a name for himself in a new place. Currently, he serves as a panelist at Shark Tank.
