Netflix is all set to bring to life one of the most beloved texts in English, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, for a series on Netflix; a first time for the classic piece of literature that has seen several film adaptations so far.

Emma Corrin is the star of this one as they will portray the role of Elizabeth Bennet, the key protagonist in the story. Starring alongside them is Jack Lowden, who is in talks to play the role of Mr Darcy in the series. Apart from that, Olivia Coleman will play Mrs Bennett, the Bennett family matriarch. Further details on the casting are awaited for now.

Talking about their role as such as a classic and beloved character from literature, Corrin told Netflix,

“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

The series will have six episodes and is said to be a pretty accurate adaptation of Austen's classic. Dolly Alderton and director Euros Lyn will be behind the show, who also commented on the project and said,

“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice."

Lynn further added,

With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”

What is Pride and Prejudice about?

Jane Austen's classic novel is a masterpiece that explores the fates of five women as they all find love in different ways and embark on different journeys. The key protagonist is a character, Elizabeth Bennett, a woman who defies social stereotypes and refuses to give in to marriage for social and financial purposes. She marries for love, in the end, and her love story with Mr Darcy becomes the highlight of the book.

Pride and Prejudice tries to comment on the societal pressures faced by women during that time as they were constantly motivated to marry wealthy suitors and even see marriage as a way of achieving economic security and social stability, rather than as an expression of love.
