“Embody the American dream:” Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary shares his opinion on Tax the Rich movement

Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary has been vocal about his opinions on capitalism. In a recent April 27, 2025 clip posted to his official Instagram account, O'Leary addressed the Tax the Rich movement, stating that behind a socialist is a capitalist trying to get out.

He explained that the ambassador of America has to "embody the American dream," which people look up to. Kevin implied that being against capitalism meant not wanting people to attain the immense amount of wealth and become rich. He said:

"However, the ambassador of America, the CEO, the president, they have to embody the American dream. That's their number one job. Our number one export is not technology or energy. It's the American dream. People come to America to achieve the American dream."

Talking about AOC, the Shark Tank investor continued:

"She embodies the American nightmare. She doesn't believe that people should succeed in wealth, and this is a huge problem for her. She does not support capitalism."

In the short clip, the Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary emphasized that the American dream is to be able to achieve wealth. He stated that AOC was not in favour of capitalism, which means she doesn't believe in becoming rich and attaining wealth. While talking about the tax the rich movement, Kevin explained that inside every socialist is a "capitalist trying to get out." He continued:

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for AOC. I buy her T-shirts for $39.95, "Tax the Rich." They're very popular in Miami Beach. I wear them and I sign them and I give them to people. She has an 82% margin on that, proving that inside of every socialist is a capitalist trying to get out."

In another Instagram clip, O'Leary mentioned that the American dream is what gives people hope and that Mark Zuckerberg, as well as Elon Musk, should be celebrated. He continued stating that they both contributed to the American economy by paying their taxes and provided job opportunities to so many people. O'Leary continued:

"You know we celebrate in America the American dream, it's our number one export. Zuck was a college student once. Look what he's created. How many jobs, how much taxes has he paid? Elon Musk may be the most successful entrepreneur in history. Another aspect of the American dream is just showing you what can happen. We should be celebrating this."

The Shark Tank investor further elaborated that it didn't matter how rich Mark and Elon were, but rather how their ideas flourished. O'Leary praised them both for establishing a successful business. He argued that people should not be "bashed" for earning money.
