Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary has drawn attention to his signature style of wearing two watches at once. Appearing on Fox Business News, Kevin flexed two of his Daytona Rolexes and claimed that these were highly sought after.
One of them had a black dial while the other was with a white one. The pair is referred to as "Ebony and Ivory." This display reinstated his fondness for high-end timepieces.
The Rolex Daytona timepieces are the most coveted pieces among collectors as specified by Kevin. The demand for the same often exceeds the supply of these watches.
The status that they have as elite watches is because of the craftsmanship that goes behind making them as well as the exclusivity that the brand has created. The timepieces are designed for professional race car drivers, however, the model has established itself as a global symbol of prestige and success.
Kevin, showing off the same, said on the panel,
"Today I've got Ebony and Ivory living together in harmony. These are two Daytonas, probably the most sought after watches in the world. And I just love them together. The ebony has Abu Dhabi time and this is New York Time on Ivory."
Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary showcases his Daytona Rolex collection
Kevin O'Leary, the Shark Tank investor, has previously revealed his habit of wearing two watches at the same time. On top of that, he has also talked about changing the timepieces almost four times a day. He said that he wears one watch in the morning and then wears another one at lunch.
As the afternoon settles, he changes it again and before going on bike rides in the evening, tries to wear a sports watch. At night, he prefers to have a statement piece on him. This is why, Kevin said, he looks for diversity in watches. Admitting in the video that it "sounds crazy" Kevin shared his watch-collecting habits.
However, this prompted the Shark Tank investors to like the look. Now he has started wearing two watches daily with one set to his local time and the other one to an international time zone that holds importance to him.
As for the Rolex Daytona "Ebony and Ivory" that he showed off on Fox Business, they have a storied history. The watches were first introduced back in 1963. They started gaining the attention of all horology enthusiasts after the timepieces were associated with Hollywood legend Paul Newman.
Since then, even the modern-day iterations of the Rolex Daytonas get huge waitlists that can stretch up to years. Some of the models are so highly sought after that they fetch double or triple their retail price when sold during private auctions and sales. Explaining the same, Shark Tank's Kevin said,
"But, I mean, if you know Rolex, grown men are weeping looking at this shot. They are the hardest watches to get in the world right now."
Kevin, in his previous videos on Instagram, has talked about how watches are not just his passion but a source of investment as well. He says that these can appreciate over time acting as a valuable asset.
Brands like Rolex Daytona, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet are some of the watches he had discussed. The Shark Tank investor thinks that they "hold their value" well.
His wearing contrasting black and white dials of the Daytona Rolex with different time zones is just a confirmation of his enthusiasm for the timepieces.
Shark Tank season 16 episodes are released weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
