Release date news & streaming details for Earnhardt
Racing fans have to mark their calendars for this May on two separate days, starting on May 22 as Earnhardt races onto Prime Video starting then.
The platform will debut the first two episodes just a few days ahead of its landmark NASCAR Cup Series coverage, starting with the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
According to NASCAR, the project will feature,
“Rare archival footage, thrilling races, and emotionally revealing interviews from his children, colleagues, and closest friends. Earnhardt is the definitive story of an American icon, both on and off the track…”
The final two episodes, i.e., episode 3 & 4 of the documentary are scheduled to release on May 29, giving viewers a full, expressive journey through Dale Sr.'s life and career.
The series will be releasing solely and exclusively on Prime Video, catering to audiences across more than 240 countries and territories.
Directed by Joshua Altman and produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and the teams at Imagine Documentaries and NASCAR Studios, the series intertwines together cherished and personal stories from Dale’s family and his closest buddies.
Fascinatingly, this marks NASCAR Studios’ first collab with Prime Video for a project that is unscripted.
Adding on to the release of the documentary, Prime will also be releasing other motorsports- dedicated content this summer, involving a docuseries on Kyle Larson and the renowned Garage 56 project.
Clearly, Earnhardt is just the starting point of Prime Video’s fast-tracked dive into the realm of racing.
Who was Dale Earnhardt Sr. & more about the doc
At the core of Earnhardt lies in its description of Dale Earnhardt Sr.—the man who will forever be known as “The Intimidator.”
The docuseries peels back the layers of the icon, proposing an unfiltered gaze at his journey from a small-town North Carolina racer to a nation-wide hero.
After acquiring Rookie of the Year honours in 1979 and instantly bagging his first Winston Cup Championship in 1980, Dale became one and the same as perseverance, charm, and steadfast determination.

Over a celebrated 27-year career, he secured 76 victories and secured for the most Cup Series championships at 7—an achievement still respected today.
The series is not just a highlight of the racer and his wins alone; it’s a deeply intimate exploration of a man who was always ready for a spirit of action and family relationships well-defined him on and off the race track.
Viewers will watch his growth, his revolution into the courageous figure whom his fans idolised, and the emotional moments which led up to his sad death during the last and final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.
Through rare BTS clips and authentic interviews, the docu-series secures the emotions that ran beneath the helmet—the affection for his children, the mass of fame, and the powerful pressures of life in the fast tracked-lanes.
In every sense, Earnhardt guarantees to be more than just a celebration of Dale and his racing legacy—it is a genuine record of a man whose name stays revered in the deep lore of NASCAR history.
With its release scheduled together with Prime Video’s NASCAR broadcast debut, the documentary is primed to captivate both his fans and new audiences alike.
Get ready to go back to the life and legacy the tale of a true American icon, recited like never before.
