Dune: Prophecy Episode 5 introduced a character similar to Paul Atreides, who could have dire consequences for the Sisterhood in the upcoming episodes.
Paul is one of the most important characters in the Dune books and movies. He is a product of inbreeding, born after meticulous planning and by mixing the Atreides-Harkonnen bloodlines, capable of great things.
The two great houses were at war, but Paul's birth was planned to make him the Bene Gesserits' long-awaited messiah, the Kwisatz Haderach, who would free the Fremen people.
Dune: Prophecy revealed that there was another born by the mixing of Atreides-Harkonnen bloodlines before 10,000 years, and it was none other than Desmond Hart.
While Hart's character has been shrouded in much mystery throughout the series' inception, this revelation changes a lot of things. It is ironic to think that the mixing which was meant to free them 10,000 years later, is one of their major threats (in the series' timeline)
More on Desmond Hart and Dune: Prophecy's latest revelation in our story.
Did Dune: Prophecy introduce its own Paul Atreides? Desmond Hart's identity finally revealed
Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides was the most important character in Dune movies, and it seems like Max's Dune: Prophecy just introduced their version of Paul in Travis Fimmel's Desmond Hart.
Since Episode 1, there has been much speculation about his character and is presented as the number one threat to the Sisterhood, who has great control over the Imperium. After surviving being swallowed by a sandstorm in Arrakis, he returns with mystical powers, including burning anybody alive with his thoughts.
Episode 5 confirmed that there is another with the Atreides-Harkonnen bloodlines like Paul, and he is Desmond Hart. He is the son of Tula Harkonnen and Orry Atreides.
While the series' events are 10,000 years before that of movies and Paul was a result of the Sisterhood's breeding program, Hart has attained this stature with mystical powers after surviving the Shai-Hulud.
What does the mixing of the Atreides-Harkonnen bloodlines mean in Dune: Prophecy?
As seen in the Dune movies, the person born with the mixing of the Atreides-Harkonnen bloodlines was Paul, who was believed to be a Fremen messiah and could see both the past and the future.
While his character was later questioned when it was highlighted how he consciously took the Fremen people on a war, which resulted in genocide, just to avenge the wrongdoings done against her mother, he was also seen as a savior in the movies.
But Paul's birth was a calculated move by the Sisterhood, whose existence was destined before he was actually born, but Desmond Hart is not a product of planned inbreeding. In addition, he gained his powers from the Shai-Hulud, which makes him very powerful.
The Atreides-Harkonnen bloodline heir had an opportunity to stop the war between the two families, but as seen in the Dune movies, Desmond did not do that; instead, seeing from his actions, he did more evil than good.
This dangerous inbreeding could mean destruction and a threat to Bene Gesserit, something which Dune: Prophecy will explore in further episodes.
