Dune: Prophecy, the latest installment in the screen adaptation of the series, is grounded in the 2012 book Sisterhood of Dune authored by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Dune: Prophecy is a six-episode series produced by Max. It depicts the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and its origins. The Sisterhood led by Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen and Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen is locked in a power struggle against the Imperium, controlling the crown from behind the scenes.
The series cast features Olivia Williams, Emily Watson, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, and Chloe Lea among others. The third episode of Dune: Prophecy titled Sisterhood Above All, reveals a few secrets from Valya and Tula’s past, notably Orry Atreides.
In the episode, it is revealed that Tula Harkonnen had a relationship and a marriage with Orry Atreides in order to exact revenge on the Atreides clan for killing their brother. Orry Atreides is the great-uncle of Paul Atreides.
Is Orry Atreides related to Paul Atreides?
The series is set about 10,000 years prior to the birth of Paul Atreides. It is difficult to exactly trace how exactly Paul and Orry are related to each other. We know that Orry only features briefly in Dune: Prophecy and is the brother of Willem Atreides. Willem in return is the great-great-great-grandson of Vorian Atreides.
We can also trace that Paul Atreides is the great-grandson of Willem Atreides, with at least five generations between them. This makes Orry Atreides from Dune: Prophecy, a great-uncle to Paul Atreides.
The fate of Orry Atreides in Dune: Prophecy
Orry Atreides belongs to the Atreides family and existed in the Dune lore before the Atreides became a Great House. He is introduced in the third episode of the series.
He falls in love with Tula Harkonnen after she joins the Atreides clan and eventually marries her. When Vorian Atreides kills Griffin who is Tula and Valya’s brother, they both go their own way seeking revenge for their brother’s death.
While Valya joins the sisterhood in the hopes of revenge, Tula joins the Atreides. Tula is accepted into the Atreides clan and begins to travel and hunt with the clan. It is there she meets Orry and falls in love with him.
As their relationship develops Orry asks Tula to marry her and they tie the knot. On their wedding night, it is revealed that Tula has actually infiltrated the Atreides clan to seek revenge for her brother.
As her sister Valya Harkonnen orders them to execute their revenge, she poisons the entire family. As Orry encounters his family's dead bodies, he is also poisoned by Tula, successfully executing the revenge on the Atreides for her brother’s death.
