Unlike many spin-offs that struggle to match the success and quality of the original film, HBO's Dune: Prophecy Season 1 promises to live up to the original prestige of the Timothée Chalamet starrer film. The TV series is set 10,147 years before Paul Atreides's birth and almost 116 years after the Machine Wars.
Dune: Prophecy Season 1 is a prequel to the original and centers around two sisters—Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, the members of the powerful and secretive sisterhood: Bene Gesserit. Valya is adventurous and fierce, while Tula is calm.
The show is set for a release on November 17, 2024, and before the arrival of Dune: Prophecy Season 1, one of its leading cast members and actress Emily Watson has already shared an update, fans would be eager to know. While talking about her role, Watson also expressed her excitement about the Dune universe.
The actress expressed her desire for the series to have more seasons. She said:
"Obviously that’s the goal — to have the whole thing carry on. “I had a blast doing this, and I would love to do more. But you just don’t know, until it’s quite close to the wire..."

At the heart of Dune: Prophecy is Watson's Valya Harkonnen, known for her involvement in the Bene Gesserit, a notable sisterhood known for detecting lies. Soon after Valya joined the sisterhood, she caught the attention of its leader—Mother Superior who then shared a secret prophecy with Valya about creating perfect leaders through a breeding special program.
When Mother Superior took her last breath, she chose Valya as her successor instead of her own daughter who is eager to helm the position. Since Valya seemed the most ambitious and intelligent member, the role was given to her.
Valya believed that Mother Superior's prophecy was crucial in presenting an upcoming disaster caused by the tyrants. As the series unfolds, viewers will delve into Valya's early and present days in the sisterhood. So, make sure to watch the first episode arriving in a few days.
