The Dope Thief finale is slowly approaching, and the show is definitely gearing up for an explosive one. The previous episode featured Ray getting almost killed, but Bart came in to save the day. Unfortunately, the killer sent by the cartel does end up shooting Ray in the leg before Bart can get to him. Episode 6 features the chaos surrounding Ray getting shot and his health worsening with every passing second.
Dope Thief episode 6 witnesses a very surprising death and an even more surprising killer. Ray keeps slipping in and out of consciousness throughout this episode, and most of what he's saying doesn't make any sense to others around him, but he might have actually revealed some key surprises in the story. Nevertheless, nobody believes him, making the audience distrust him as well and allowing the suspense to build up right until the most surprising death in the show.
Here's everything that happened in Apple TV's Dope Thief Episode 6.
Dope Thief Episode 6 Recap

Everyone tries to save Ray, but there's a problem
Episode 6 takes place six weeks past the original robbery. The cartel and the DEA are all behind Ray and Manny in full force. The cartel actually sent a hitman right outside his house to kill Ray, which is how Ray ends up shot in the leg before Bart saves him. The episode starts with Bart announcing that the killer was sent by the cartel after examining the dead body. Ray is taken inside the house, but every minute that passes before Ray is taken to the hospital makes him worse.
Ray's family and friends in Dope Thief are all in shambles, as they realize that Ray cannot be taken to the hospital because they're completely surrounded by danger. All of them, including Ray, could be killed as soon as they step outside of the house. Since the hospital is out of the question for Ray, Bart tries to use things available on hand, such as glue, to close Ray back up. This does nothing to help Ray, as he soon starts slipping in and out of consciousness.
Manny comes to the scene in Dope Thief, but it somehow makes things worse

Manny arrives at the scene to help his friend and partner, but that somehow makes things worse when Brat blames Manny for the problems that Ray is in. Brat accuses Manny of being an addict who is bringing down Ray with him, to which Manny basically calls Brat a bad father, in so many words. Ray keeps worsening by the minute, and Manny makes the decision to call for help.
Ray, who keeps slipping in and out of consciousness, tells Manny to not call Son, that Son is not on their side, and is going to betray them. Thinking he's just being paranoid and delusional, Manny ignores him and calls Son, whose mother, Xuan, was a medic in the Vietnam War. Xuan comes in and anesthetizes Manny to put pressure on his leg wound and close it. After dealing with the wound on his leg, she informs everyone on Dope Thief that their problems are far from over because Ray has an older wound in his chest that is infected and releasing pus inside his bloodstream, essentially poisoning him.
Manny is forced to take Ray to the hospital in Dope Thief Episode 6

The antibiotics are not doing anything to help Ray's condition on Dope Thief, so the gang is forced to take him to the hospital and risk everything.
Ray, on the other hand, is so lost between reality and his hallucinations in Dope Thief that he appears to be seeing the ghost of Marletta telling him to let her go, all the while he's battling with anger towards his father for everything that has gone wrong between them for so long. In the midst of these hallucinations, Ray seems to have a moment of clarity where he realizes a lot of things. Ray is also convinced, like his father, that they are being watched and heard, so everybody has to think about what they say out loud.
Ray also realizes that there are numbers on the two-dollar bills and that these numbers add up to become a code. He doesn't realize what the code is for, but he's sure that the cartel is not after the money for its value but for the codes. Ray asks Manny about the money, who assures him that the money is safe without revealing its location. Interestingly, during this conversation, the camera pans to Son, who is listening to it intently. Is the show foreshadowing something about Son, and was Ray, in his delusions, correct about his loyalty?
Bart tries to make up for his actions in Dope Thief

Bart decides to drive Ray to the hospital, and Manny and Son would follow him. Surprisingly, they find the streets from the house to the hospital completely empty. It feels as if this is the calm before the storm, and they should be prepared for the worst mentally. As Bart drives Ray, he confesses that he was released from prison under the condition that he would act as an ear for the Feds. His ankle monitor actually had a listening device through which the Feds were listening in on their conversations in Dope Field Episode 6.
As soon as the gang gets to the hospital, the storm ensues and bullets start raining down from every direction. Manny tries to get Ray, who is calling out for his father, inside the hospital between the gunfight in Dope Thief. Bart and the gang outside successfully kill everyone who was waiting for them at the hospital. This should have been the happy ending for the episode, at least for the time being, but the twist of Dope Thief episode 6 comes in when Bart is face-to-face with a gun and shot long after the shootout is over.
The episode ends without showing the face of Bart's killer, but looking at the end, the audience is very sure that the killer is Son and Ray was completely right. Ray and Manny inside the hospital might not know that Son is the one who killed Bart, and they might not find out. This will bring in a lot of chaps in the final episodes of Dope Thief.
