Cobra Kai might be nearing the end of its run with the upcoming third part of the final season, but The Karate Kid franchise shows no signs of slowing down. A trailer for the upcoming film, Karate Kid: Legends, dropped recently, giving fans the first glimpse of the continuation of The Karate Kid universe. The film is scheduled for release on May 30, 2025.

It does seem from the trailer of Karate Kid: Legends that the much anticipated appearance of Jackie Chan as Mr. Han on the final season of Cobra Kai might not come to pass, after all.

Cobra Kai has been successfully running over the past seven years. The martial arts series initially started off as a show on the now-defunct YouTube Red, before moving on to streaming platform Netflix. The third part of the final season of Cobra Kai releases on February 13, 2025.

In this context, the trailer for Karate Kid: Legends holds several telling details about the possible outcome of Cobra Kai Season 6 finale. Contrary to the popular belief that the end of the show will highlight details about Mr. Miyagi's past and contain an appearance by Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, the trailer for the film suggests that the relationship between Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi might only be explored in the film and not on the final part of the Netflix show. Here's all that we know.

Cobra Kai : The connection between Mr. Miyagi and Mr. Han explored

According to Cobra Kai, Mr. Miyagi passed away on November 15, 2011, aged 86. Over the past seasons, the show presented enough information about Mr. Miyagi's background through several revelations, including the records of his criminal past. He was previously thought to have known Jackie Chan's Mr. Han.

However, as per the latest trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso, is seen asking Mr. Han about Mr. Miyagi, thus confirming the fact that LaRusso wasn't aware about the shared history between the two masters. It can thus be derived that the end of the show's final season might not delve into the characteristics of Mr. Miyagi that were in conjunction with Mr. Han.

As regards the erstwhile widespread fan theory of Jackie Chan making a cameo appearance on the show's finale, it is now believed that Mr. Han would make his first appearance in the upcoming film and not the show.

This is in keeping with narrative continuity while, at the same time, it also allows his character to be properly introduced and developed. The show lacked room for both, as the finale would call for a conclusive end to several character arcs and narrative threads.

What did Cobra Kai showrunner say about the show's finale?

Creator and showrunner Jon Hurwitz had previously spoken about the end of the show during an interview with Gizmodo earlier this year in July. He mentioned:

"For the final five (episodes), it’s not only closing out 'Cobra Kai' as a series, but it’s digging all the way back to the Karate Kid movies. It’s a resolution for a lot of these characters and new beginnings for them as well in different ways. And it’s going to be a really fun, fulfilling final five episodes, I think, for fans of this franchise. If you’ve been a fan for just a few years now, or if you’ve been a fan for 40 years, you’re in for a real treat in the final five."

All episodes of the show till Season 6 Part 2 are exclusively available on Netflix
