Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 6 finally showed what was going on with Tai and why she was acting strange, suddenly eating meat and making sacrifices to the Wilderness.
The show introduced Tai's alter ego, 'Other' Tai, in Season 1, who does bad and sinister things that the real Tai does not remember. She first learned about her other personality from Van (in the past) and Sammy (in the present).
Tai does not seem to have supernatural abilities in Yellowjackets, but her other personality seems to have a sinister and mysterious connection with the wilderness.
While earlier, the other Tai used to take over only when the real Tai was asleep, it seems like the evil one has assumed full control over her body and is masquerading as the real one in front of others.
More on Tai in Yellowjackets in our story.
Who is 'Other' Tai in Yellowjackets Season 3 and how is she connected to the story?
'Other' Tai is another version of Tai in Yellowjackets, who seems to be a bolder and fiercer version of Tai in the story. While it was shown that this version only arose when Tai was asleep and could not resist possession, it seems that the other Tai has taken control of her now.
Other Tai could also be explained as an alter ego of Tai in both the past and present timelines, who seems much more confident than the real Tai. While the real Tai does not eat meat and is more caring towards others, the other Tai eats meat and is only concerned with self-preservation.
In Yellowjackets Season 3, Tai becomes obsessed with the wilderness and is sure that it demands sacrifices in the present to grant them wishes. While the real Tai would never have killed her son Sammy's dog, the other Tai sacrifices it in the wilderness.
She also became more obsessed with the wilderness and even convinced Van to make a sacrifice to it so that Van's cancer would be remitted and they would have more time together. These instances in the present timeline, which do not align with the real Tai, suggest that the other can assume full control of the real one, and she has no control over her life anymore.
Real Tai tried to communicate with Van in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 6
While the other Tai is good at hiding that she is not real, and it seems that she has assumed full control, the real Tai broke free in Yellowjackets Season 3 for a few moments.
In Episode 6, Shauna asks Van for help in decoding a DAT tape that somebody left for her. While Van and Tai went to the latter's basement to look for a DAT player, the real Tai called Van on an old landline and asked for her help, saying she needed to get her out.
But after a few moments, the other Tai walks towards her like nothing happened, hinting that the real Tai got hold of her body for a few moments and asked Van for help. In another instance, Tai again asks for Van's help in the middle of the night, but soon, the other Tai regains control.
In the previous episode of Yellowjackets, Tai's son Sammy also sees through the other Tai when he accuses her of not being her mother in the playground. From the previous seasons, we know that Sammy has a connection with the other Tai and is always able to distinguish between his mother's two versions.
He also made drawings when the other Tai climbed trees and ate dirt, hinting that he might hold the key to unlock the other Tai's mystery and will likely team up with Van to rescue his real mother from the control of her alter ego.
