BBC America's science fiction series Orphan Black stars actress Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning and her clones. The five-year series ends with Sarah starting a new life with her daughter Kira and foster brother Felix.
Although Sarah survives at the end of Orphan Black, she does not appear in AMC's Orphan Black: Echoes. It is a spin-off from the same universe. Here, Kira is an integral part of the show. Orphan Black takes us back to her dangerous world of cloning and biological modification.
Orphan Black: Echoes is set almost four decades after the events of the original series. It follows Dr Kira Manning, the now adult daughter of Sarah (Maslany), as she helps an amnesiac woman named Lucy (Ritter) discover the truth about herself. However, Sarah has not yet been seen in Orphan Black: Echoes.
Sarah in Orphan Black and how is the related to Orphan Black: Echoes
It was clear from the beginning that the Orphan Black: Echoes series would not be a repeat of the original Orphan Black. The story is more about Sarah's daughter than Sarah herself.
As per Yahoo Entertainment, the show's creators have hinted that Sarah's experiences may be connected to the spin-off show somehow, and she may make a guest appearance in some episodes shortly.
As well as being a gripping tale of illegal human cloning experiments, the series was also an acting masterclass for star Tatiana Maslany. The Canadian actress played five major characters throughout the series, appearing in many "guest" roles as other clones they encountered. In the Orphan Black series finale, it was revealed that a total of 276 Leda clones had been created.
The story of Orphan Black begins when a petty thief, Sarah Manning, arrives at a train station and is confronted by a woman who looks exactly like her. Before Sarah can react or emerge from her stupor, the woman commits suicide by stepping in front of a train.
Over the next five episodes, Sarah descends the rabbit hole of the dead woman's true origins, revealing that both she and her daughter are in grave danger. As Orphan Black unravels the mystery, it is revealed that Sarah is just one of hundreds of clones created in 1984 as part of the mysterious Project Leda. In this series, she encounters multiple copies of herself, with 17 different and unique clones portrayed by Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black.
What Happens in Orphan Black: Echoes
Orphan Black: Echoes is the series released after all five seasons of the original Orphan Black. The sci-fi thriller series is created by Anna Fishko and stars Krysten Ritter. It follows the same universe as the original, but takes place 37 years after the end of the original series. In this time, the character of Kira, now an adult, and her partner are searching for a way to help an amnesiac woman.
This series focuses on Lucy, played by Krysten Ritter, with another cloning-related issue. Cloning in this future has taken on all sorts of new possibilities - questionable or game-changing. Here comes Keeley Hawes' scientist character to explore and ponder all these new scientific developments.

Sarah’s return to Orphan Black: Echoes
When Orphan Black: Echoes was in production, Tatiana Maslany's schedule was a little complicated because she was working on another project. As Fishko mentioned in an interview with EW,
“It was ultimately a little bit about schedule and availability because she [Maslany] was working on something else, but we had conversations about it and thought about it a lot,”
It won't be a challenge for the writers to introduce Sarah in the second part of the series, as her character was left alive at the end of Orphan Black.
Maslany has previously said that she is ready to let go of her roles in 'Orphan Black', especially after reprising her original characters in the audio series 'Orphan Black: The Next Chapter'.
Orphan Black: Echoes is available for fans to stream on AMC.
