Oliver Grayson isn't dead by the end of the episode. However, his actions in the episode raise serious concerns about the kind of superhero he is becoming.

In Episode 3, Oliver makes a shocking decision, he kills the Mauler Twins. Instead of just stopping them, he takes their lives without hesitation. This alarms Mark and Debbie, who try to explain to him that killing is not the answer.

Oliver, however, doesn’t seem to fully understand the weight of his actions. Unlike Mark, who struggled with his father’s brutal ideology, Oliver appears more open to the idea that sometimes violence is necessary. His increasing power and independent nature worry both Mark and Debbie. They fear that, like their father, Omni-Man, Oliver might go down a dangerous path.

Oliver's story

Oliver’s story in the Invincible comics takes a dramatic turn. As he grows older, he finds himself in the middle of the war between the Viltrumites and the Coalition of Planets.

At one point, Oliver pretends to work for Thragg, the leader of the Viltrumites. However, his real goal is to spy on Thragg and help the Coalition. Since Mark is in a coma during this time, Oliver earns Thragg’s trust without raising suspicion.

Eventually, Thragg tests Oliver’s loyalty in the worst way possible. He reveals his plan to kill Mark, Atom Eve, and their daughter, Terra. He orders Oliver to stay silent and not warn them.

Oliver is torn. He doesn’t want to betray Thragg, but he also cannot stand by while his family is murdered.

When Oliver sees Terra in danger, he can’t stay quiet anymore. He tells her to run and get her parents. But his warning comes too late, and Thragg breaks Terra’s leg, sending Oliver into a rage.

Oliver attacks Thragg, finally revealing that he was never truly loyal to him. He calls Thragg out for wanting to destroy the Grayson family simply because they are a threat to his rule.

In response, Thragg kills Oliver.

Oliver’s death is tragic but also heroic. Even though he worked for Thragg, his final choice proves that his heart was always with his family.

After his death, his body is brought back to Earth for a funeral. Mark, Debbie, and others mourn him, remembering him as a brave fighter who, despite his mistakes, ultimately chose to do the right thing.

The Invincible TV show has already made some changes from the comics, so it’s unclear if Oliver’s fate will be the same. However, his violent tendencies and moral struggles suggest that he may face a similar tragic ending in the show.

Since the show has been gradually exploring his complex personality, fans can expect more dramatic moments involving Oliver as the series progresses.
