Netflix's Carry-On has blown audiences away since December 13, 2024. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, this action thriller features Taron Egerton as TSA agent Ethan Kopek and Jason Bateman as the mysterious Traveler.

Set on Christmas Eve, it takes place at Los Angeles International Airport and manages to combine the intense drama with emotional resonance and high stakes. One of the main storylines includes Ethan's frantic efforts to save his pregnant wife, Nora, from being killed in the event of an attack.

The Hostage Situation: How Ethan Saves Nora

Carry-On strands Ethan in sheer confrontation; the enigmatic Traveler will terminate Nora, thus making him allow a carry-on bag laced with Novichok through airport security channels.

Nora thinks all is well since Ethan seems contorted, believing all the scenario has to do with their coming fatherhood. Just then, pop, change, of course! She intercepts an enigmatic message from Ethan via a staff member.

This pushes her into a series of mayhems while trying to run away from the Traveler's partner, known as the Watcher. The bubbling of those tense moments erupts as the Watcher brutally terminates Ethan's co-worker and has Nora in sight.

Nora is, of course, trapped in the empty parking lot, her pleas muffled by the holiday madness at LAX, just as Ethan is making a run for the lonely cries. At the very last minute, just as the Watcher will have gotten to the point of launching his attack, up rolls Jesse, one of Ethan's allies, who quickly puts the aggressor out of commission.

The timing is perfect as it saves Nora and paints a vivid picture of how much Ethan is willing to sacrifice for the sake of his family.

How Ethan Defeats the Traveler

When the strain goes on, then it becomes even moody, not so much on the mood, but on the mission which involves carrying out the grandest hallucination one can ever make use of: to murder Congresswoman Grace Turner and to kill as many as possible all the passengers aboard Flight 0610 for an even bigger continuation of his cause.

Ethan solves the conundrum of challenging the Traveler to save itself as bait using a brilliant switch: loading the nerve agent's-release mechanism into a thrown-off-the-scent fake bag to dupe the terrorist.

The climax sees him tracking the Traveler down the aircraft's underbelly. Despite his injuries, he manages to immobilize the nerve agent device and entrap the Traveler in a fridge, not before exposing him to his own weapon. The Traveler, incapacitated, leaves the pilots with no option but to redirect the flight back to LAX.

A Hopeful Ending

At the end of the film, all the passengers, including Congresswoman Turner, are salvaged, while Nora, Ethan, and their unborn child come out without a scare. Years later, we find Ethan thriving as an LAPD officer on vacation with Nora and their child, Jason.

Nora's survival is an example of what Ethan can endure and is well worth fighting for, so Carry-On is a lovely story of devotion, self-sacrifice, and redemption. Its hard action combined with soft moments will surely make the movie unforgettable.
