The Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso has a special place in fans' hearts. The show isn't just popular for creating a beloved character like Ted and his compelling story, but also for exploring multiple storylines of its characters.
Two such characters in Ted Lasso are Nathan "Nate" Shelley (played by Nick Mohammed) and Jade (played by Edyta Budnik) whose storylines evolved throughout the seasons. Their relationship began on a rocky note when Nate crossed paths with Jade at A Taste of Athens, his favorite restaurant in Season 2.
This was Jade's first appearance in Ted Lasso as she was introduced as a hostess at the restaurant and gave Nate a hard time soon after their first meeting. Gradually, Nate became interested in Jade, but she never liked the way he bragged like his promotion to head coach at West Ham United and a failed date attempt.
Nate soon began to impress Jade, but her unkind and dismissive nature caused tension between them. Following Jade's actions in the series, it looked like she would never date Nate.
However, the tables turned and Jade agreed to date him. By the end of Ted Lasso, Jade, and Nate become a couple, overcoming the challenges they faced earlier.
Exploring the shift in Nate and Jade's relationship in Ted Lasso
While Jade didn't change much in the early season, Nate's transformation is notable. After experiencing mistreatment in Season 1, Nate underwent a dramatic shift to a more aggressive and resentful character. His anger became overwhelming to the point where he considered leaving AFC Richmond for West Ham.
At the same time, he didn't get a chance to date Jade as she kept rejecting him. However, fans were offered a positive change in his character in Ted Lasso Season 3 when Nate again proved his admiration for Jade and decided to pursue to loyal relationship with her.
This was seen in Season 3 Episode 9 when Rupert wanted Nate to meet other women, but he realized his intentions and got back to Jade. Interestingly, it wasn't just Nate who saw a change, but also Jade who began noticing Nate after he joined West Ham United as a head coach.
Jade also revealed being intelligent and sarcastic. She became more attuned to Nate’s struggles and victories, leading to a deeper connection between her and Nate. A pivotal moment when Jade's perception changed was during a scene when Nate defended the restaurant's food.
Jade gradually softened herself for Nate, and when he gathered the courage to ask her out, Jade eagerly accepted his feelings. Despite a rocky beginning, Jade and Nate ended up as lovers.

The conclusion of Nate and Jade's story arc in Ted Lasso: Redemption and reconnection
As mentioned above, Nate and Jade faced significant challenges in their lives before becoming lovers. It was in Season 3 when the two reconciled and initiated a new beginning, but before that, there were major issues like Nate's previous decision to work as a waiter at A Taste of Athens which disappointed Jade.
In Season 2, Nate began losing his soft side and grew more aggressive and rude. However, he reconnected with kindness and humility through his bond with Jade. In their final appearance, the two enjoyed a dinner with Nate's family, signaling that they resolved all the past issues with each other and reconciled.
Their relationship was more than a romantic plot as it helped Nate's personal growth and redemption. While Ted was the focus of the series, Nate and Jade's relationship significantly contributed to the Ted Lasso themes of growth, acceptance, and how meaningful connections can change lives.
