Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time Season 3 depicted the tragic death of a beloved character in the penultimate Episode 7, titled Goldeneyes. While the Two Rivers is under the attack of the trollocs, Loial (Hammed Animashaun), the ogier, goes to close the Waygates to make sure the trollocs do not receive reinforcements during the battle.

While doing so, he sacrifices himself by destroying the bridge to protect his loved ones and the Two Rivers. However, in the book series by Robert Jordan, Loial does not die, rendering the death shocking for the admirers of the books who are following the series.

More on this in our story.

Does Loial die in The Wheel of Time Season 3? Details explored

Season 3 of The Wheel of Time is based on Robert Jordan’s book The Shadow Rising from the book series. Until now, the Amazon Prime series has changed only minor details from the book, such as the sequence of the events. However, killing a fan-favorite character that does not die in the books was a shocker for many fans.

In Episode 7, Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) and the people of the Two Rivers get ready to fight with the Dark One’s Trollocs army, which is being led by Padan Fain. As Perrin and his group make plans on how to defend themselves, Loial volunteers to close the Waygates to make sure the trollocs do not receive any reinforcements. Perrin initially does not support the idea as it is a dangerous plan but gives in when Chiad and Bain decide to accompany the ogier in his task.

The other people fight to defend the Two Rivers, which becomes difficult after Alanna gets injured as Trollocs begin coming from the mountain pass. Loial, who goes with Chiad and Bain to close the Waygates, leaves the two Aeil maidens outside to watch his back as he goes inside to close the Waygates.

However, it is not a simple task, as every time he attempts to destroy the waygate with his hammer, he clashes with the trollocs as they pour in from the gate. Loial then takes a drastic decision to destroy the bridge altogether. With his hammer, he destroys the bridge to make sure more trollocs don’t enter the Two Rivers, and, in the process, falls to his death.

His act plays an important part in ensuring Fain’s defeat as his army of trollocs retreats from the Two Rivers. As Perrin and his group mourn Loial’s death, Faile thinks that Loial might have known that he was not returning back as he also left his book that he was writing on their many journeys and quests.

More about The Wheel of Time Season 3

In the previous episode, Perrin and his group defeated Padan Fain, who retreated his army after Perrin showed him mercy. However, they also encountered a huge loss as Loail sacrificed himself to protect the Two Rivers.

The finale of season 3 might reveal more plot twists and turns to make the episode intense and emotional, just like episode 7.
