After the episode "Life of Brian” aired it left the audience shocked and heartbroken, and the creators also got backlash for it. The whole family is left devastated, especially Stewie as both of them share a very special bond. To cope with their loss, the family gets a new dog named Vinny, who tries to fit into their lives. Although Vinny was a fun addition, he doesn’t fill the void left by Brian. The episode ends with the family adjusting to life without Brian, marking one of the most emotional moments in the series.

The creators did bring Brian back just after two episodes, in a Christmas special episode. In the episode, Peter is seen trying to restore the Christmas spirit in the town, and Stewie, devastated by Brian’s death, wants to be with Brain. He uses his time machine to bring him back to life so they can celebrate Christmas together. Stewie goes back in time with his machine and brings Brian back to reunite the family just in time for Christmas.
