Alex Cross marries Bree in James Patterson’s books
Alex first meets Bree as they work together as detectives. Bree is smart, tough, and great at her job, which impresses Alex. Their relationship is professional initially. Meanwhile, Alex, who is raising his kids with the help of his grandmother, Nana Mama, notices Bree’s strong sense of right and wrong.
Bree also admires Alex's dedication to his family and his hard work in these cases. Their friendship grows as they spend more time together and Bree becomes someone Alex can talk to. She helps him feel steady in his life after having lost his wife, Maria.
As Alex and Bree work on more cases together in the novel Double Cross (2007), their connection becomes stronger and they start a romantic relationship. Bree understands how demanding Alex’s job is, and she supports him while also getting close to his kids.
Bree is patient, kind, and loving, which helps her fit perfectly into Alex’s family. His children also grow to love Bree, and even Nana Mama appreciates her. In I, Alex Cross (2009), Alex becomes sure about his future with Bree and proposes to her, which she gladly accepts. The couple gets married in the 2010 novel, Cross Fire.
Bree then helps Alex in balancing his demanding career with his responsibilities as a father. She also steps in to help keep the family together when times get tough. Their relationship takes a turn when Bree comes across Ava, a young girl without a family, in Kill Alex Cross (2011).
Bree wants to adopt her, but Alex is not sure about it at first. Eventually, they agree to make Ava a part of their family. Sadly, Ava is later killed and her loss devastates Alex and Bree. But instead of tearing them apart, their sorrow brings them closer.
They work together to seek justice for Ava and show how strong their bond is even in a time of tragedy. Because of Alex’s dangerous job, Bree often finds herself in risky situations. In one case, she saves Alex during a fight with Guidice, the man responsible for Ava’s death.
Bree’s quick thinking and bravery protect Alex and help them close the case. Meanwhile, Alex often worries that his job puts his family in danger. However, Bree understands his struggles and stands by him.
She listens to his fears and reminds him of his strengths, helping him decide what is best for their family and for his career. Bree also talks with Alex about having children of their own. She wants to grow their family but knows Alex needs time to figure out how to keep everyone safe.
Over the series, Alex and Bree face various challenges, from kidnappings and terrorists to personal losses, but they always overcome them together. The two start off as colleagues and go on to become partners in everything in their lives.
