What happened in Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2?

Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 was a surreal adventure for the Doctor and Belinda in 1950s Miami, where a group of people went missing from a movie theater. The opening scenes of the episode show how, when the moviegoers were watching a blue-skinned cartoon called Mr. Ring-A-Ding, he suddenly came alive in front of the audience, and since then, they have been missing.

The Doctor's TARDIS transports the duo to Miami in the 1950s, and he is intrigued by the mystery of the missing people from the theater. They visit the theater and see the caretaker, Mr. Pye, still playing reels of films for Mr. Ring-A-Ding, who appears to be gaining strength with them.

After many riddles and trickery, Doctor and Belinda learn that the cartoon has trapped all the missing people inside the film, and it can only be destroyed by sunlight. The duo is also trapped in the film, and when Ring-A-Ding threatens to take away all the Doctor's regeneration energy, Mr. Pye makes a hole in the building by burning all the reels.

After the explosion, the sunlight hits the cartoon, and he shifts back to his 2-D form, then dissolves into ether. Belinda and the Doctor see him take his original form, and all the trapped people inside the reel also finally come to life. The duo reunites all the missing people with their family members.
