Here is the complete recap of Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2.

Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 recap: A mystery in 1950s Miami

Doctor Who Season 2, Episode 2 opens in 1950s Miami, in a theater where men, women, and children are watching a cartoon, Mr. Ring-A-Ding. The cartoon is the God of Light and appears mysterious and a trickster.

Suddenly, as the caretaker, Mr. Pye, gets up to change the reel of the movie, moonlight strikes his spoon and shines upon the cartoon, making it come alive. Ring-A-Ding comes alive in front of the audience and steps out of the screen, and since then, all the people have been missing and the theater has been shut down.

Elsewhere, the Doctor is trying to use the TARDIS to transport Belinda to her right time and location. While trying to do so, they accidentally travel to 1950s Miami. They visit a diner, where a woman reveals to them the strange tale of the theater and how she is still waiting for her son, who is also one of the missing people.

The Doctor is highly intrigued by this mystery and asks Belinda to visit the theater and solve it. The duo enters the theater, which is still running a reel of film in the empty theater.

After entering the theater, the duo learns that Mr. Ring-A-Ding, a cartoon character, has been alive and is deriving strength from the film reels. The caretaker, Mr. Pye, reveals his tragic backstory to Doctor and Belinda, explaining that the cartoon character allows Pye to meet his deceased wife through the film reels. If he stopped playing the reels, he would not be able to see his wife again.

Ring-A-Ding tricks the duo some more, and they learn that he has trapped all the people inside the film. He riddles them, and they learn that the cartoon can be destroyed only by one thing. But before they could decipher what, he transforms them into 2-D characters, and they are also transported inside the screen.

After much effort and a strange meeting with some Doctor Who fans, the Doctor realizes that the only way to destroy Ring-A-Ding is sunlight, hidden in one of his riddles (which is that he never goes out of the theater).

The Doctor realizes that they would have to burn the highly flammable reels and explode the building, which will create a hole and let sunlight in. Just as Ring-A-Ding was about to absorb all of the Doctor's regeneration energy, Belinda asked Pye to hand off his matches.

Pye sees his dead wife, who asks him to join her, and he lights all the reels on fire (and in the process sacrifices himself in the fire).

The explosion creates a hole in the building, allowing sunlight to enter. As the sunlight hits Ring-A-Ding, he starts to fade away and turn back into a 2-D figure and is slowly diffused into the ether. All the people trapped inside the film are also released and transform into their human form. The Doctor and Belinda reunite the diner lady with her son.
