As the release date for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man approaches, we got an exciting update about the show. A featurette featuring the cast and crew of the animated show gave us a glimpse into the 1960's but modern world established by the series. Moreover, we also get a first look at what The Man Without Fear, i.e., Daredevil, looks like in this animated series.

Looks like The Man Without Fear is having a cultural resurgence after being mostly away for quite a while. Despite cameo appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, the character of Daredevil has been away from the screens since 2018. The inclusion of Matt Murdock only adds to fans' anticipation for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

What is Daredevil's role in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?

As of now, we don't know anything about The Man Without Fear's role in the ten-episode animated series. But we do know that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are reprising their respective roles of Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. However, it is to be noted that these characters belong to the same universe the show is set in.

So, any plot involving the Kingpin and Devil of Hell's Kitchen will not be setting up the events that play out in Daredevil: Born Again. Also, while Iron Man will be appearing in the show, he isn't Peter Parker's mentor in the show. Peter's mentor is someone else entirely in this continuity.

Who is Peter Parker's mentor in the show?

In this continuity, we find out that Spider-Man's mentor is Norman Osborn of this universe, voiced by Colman Domingo. Usually, Norman Osborn transforms into the Supervillain Green Goblin, Spider-Man's arch-nemesis. However, it doesn't look like this version of Norman has transformed into his comic-book counterpart's alter-ego.

It remains to be seen, though, if he gradually transforms himself or is already the Goblin helping Peter with nefarious intentions.

The official synopsis of the show goes:

"'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots."

What are the reactions to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?

Looks like critics got a chance to watch some episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It seems that most of their reactions are positive. Here are some of the reactions by some of these critics:

For example, Brandon Davis, the Phase Hero host, wrote this about the show:

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a really good Spidey story. This take on Peter Parker is authentic and a great combination of comic & MCU lore. Ending eps are AWESOME. It doesn't reach the depths of X-Men '97 but it's one of Marvel Animations better entries, for sure."

Jenna Anderson, Phase Hero podcast's co-host, said this about the show:

"#YourFriendlyNeighborhoodSpiderMan blends so much of what I love about Ditko art, Toth animation, & teen dramas. Equal parts timeless & uniquely modern. The ensemble cast is so much fun, & Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn is INSPIRED. I would watch six more seasons immediately."

Amarú Moses, the host of the podcast Bitesize Breakdown, reviewed the show like this:

"YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN reminds us why we love Spidey. Balancing that 90s feel w/ the best bits of the MCU, it fully captures the joys & pains of Pete’s New York. It’s an absolute blast & I cant wait for everyone else to fall in love. Hit @bitesizebreak for more"

These reactions have us excited for this show.

The coming week is exciting for all the Spider-Man fans. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will begin streaming on Disney+ on January 29, 2025, and will end on February 19, 2025.
