Mark Cuban, the Shark Tank investor, shared in a video that he does not wear a watch and has not done so in the last 30 years. In an era where time management is deemed to be an important part of being a successful person, the Cuban takes a different approach.

Many executives and entrepreneurs live by packed schedules, but the Shark Tank investor has deleted the concept of having a wristwatch from his life.

In a recent video for People on YouTube, Mark Cuban shares that time is a resource for him that is in his control now. He highlighted the concept of autonomy by ensuring that he is not bound by something dictated by others in his life.

This decision reflects the success that came along with independence for him. The independence to use his time however he likes to. By doing so, Mark says he now governs how he uses his time rather than being tied to various business schedules.

Elaborating, Mark said,

"When I was working my way up, I always had to work to somebody else's schedule. When I finally sold my companies and had enough money to stand on my own, the first thing I did—prior to getting an Apple Watch—was get rid of a watch. I didn't wear a watch for 30 years because I didn’t want to be on anybody else's time."

Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban's decision to not be bound by a watch aligns with another one of his concepts, that is, to always handle situations via e-mail. He does not attend meetings, take phone calls, or even go to an office somewhere. Instead, his work ethic is to leverage digital communication.

By doing so, he spends 8 to 10 hours a day on a screen such as a laptop or his phone. He says that this gives him full control over his time. Explaining this rule, Shark Tank's Mark said,

"It's got to be an email. A lot of people ask about my daily routine, and you're going to be shocked. I look at my phone or I'm looking at a laptop, and I'm on there eight, nine, ten hours a day. Am I going to meetings? No. Am I taking phone calls? No. Am I going to some office somewhere? No."

Mark then talked about why things are working for him now as he wishes. He says that people often do not object to his demands because he has made a name for himself in the business world.

This strategy also allows him to work from anywhere he wants to without any rigid expectations from anyone. Mark says that this strategy has been working out well for him.

"And now, finally, because people pretty much kiss my a** when it comes to business, I can tell them I'm doing everything via email. Period. End of story. And because of that, I can get everything done by sitting on a laptop or a phone anywhere in the world. And that works out really, really, really well."

On another rule in the same video, Mark talked about him spending money. He said that during his initial days when he had made money, he decided to buy things such as a plane and a house, but since then, he limited his spending.

However, this did not make him feel very good as he claims not to be a "big spender." Thus, after having a conversation with his wife, Mark says that they have decided to impose proper financial management upon themselves.

Shark Tank season 16 episodes can be watched weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
