Did Monty die in Landman? Character's fate explored

The coming week is going to be tough for Landman fans since one of the major characters, Monty Miller’s fate has been left on a cliffhanger by the end of Landman Season 1 Episode 9.

Played by Jon Hamm, Monty Miller was admitted to the hospital following heart troubles. He was to go through his third bypass surgery and problems with his heart health have been hinted at throughout all the episodes of Landman.

However, since episode 9 does not completely make it clear whether Monty lives or dies, let us now explore what happened to him by the end of the episode and if he has a chance to survive.

What happens to Monty Miller in Landman?

It was in Landman Season 1 episode 8 that Monty had to rush to the hospital after his heart rate went through the roof, which he tracked via a watch on his wrist. Not much information was given about what was happening with him in this episode but his wife, Cami (Demi Moore), asked him to not take work-related calls until he was completely fine.

The fact that Monty has serious heart issues has been teased throughout Landman. He was seen to be on a golf course, a sport he claimed not to enjoy but to have picked up as a form of exercise.

Cami also asks him to maintain a healthier lifestyle and cut down on caffeine, which indicates that Monty’s heart problems come from the usual causes of unhealthy eating, not exercising enough, and stress.

Episode 8 saw Jerry visit Monty in the hospital where they discuss a healthier way of living life. Jerry encourages him to take a break from work and spend more time with his family or at least get Cami involved in the business so that it takes the pressure off him a little.

However, Monty’s character is shown to be a workaholic who thinks that if he stops working he might die like his father, who passed away only five months after his retirement because he had nothing to do.

Does Monty die in Landman Season 1 Episode 9?

By the end of episode 9, it is not clearly shown whether Monty is alive or dead. However, it was shown in the episode that Monty’s heart rate was getting extremely high again, which made him hit the emergency button. He likely had another heart attack in this episode as well, which would mean that things would get even more complicated for him healthwise.

Given the kind of conversations that have been happening throughout the series, especially in the last couple of episodes, the chances of Monty’s survival stand at an uncertain position. Moreover, towards the end of the episode, Cami was shown to be making a call to Tommy which made his expression rather sombre and he was also heard to be apologising.

While this could mean Cami gave him the news of Monty passing away, this could also mean that the second attack got him into a coma or something serious like that, ensuring that he is alive but in a critical condition. Till the final episode of Landman airs, nothing can be said for certain.
