Daredevil: Born Again - Karen Page moves to San Francisco
After the tragic death of Foggy, Karen and Matt had been out of touch. They were dealing with their pain individually. They needed space and time to heal from it. Outside the courtroom, when they meet again, Karen tells Matt:
"My friend died too, Matt. And then I lost you. You didn't talk to me for weeks."
She also says:
"San Francisco’s nice. It’s different from New York, but not too different."
This line could be one of the biggest clues about where the story of Born Again is heading.
Karen's statement here holds importance because her moving to San Francisco isn't a piece of random information. It could be a major nod to one of the chapters in the Daredevil’s comic history.
In the comics, Matt Murdock’s identity is exposed. Then he leaves New York and relocates to San Francisco. And now it seems like the MCU is using this dialogue by Karen to hint at where Matt's future might be going.
Daredevil: Born Again - A nod to Mark Waid’s run in the comics
In the comics, Matt Murdock reinvents himself in San Francisco after devastating events. He continues both as a vigilante and a lawyer there. But his identity as Daredevil is public knowledge.
Karen moving to San Francisco in the series could signal that Matt might end up in San Francisco as the series progresses, just like in the comics.
There's another big clue in Daredevil: Born Again. Matt has started a new law firm with Kirsten McDuffie, which also happens in the comics. Moreover, Foggy is also dead, just like in the comics.
Foggy’s absence could be the thing that pushes Matt to leave New York. And that’s not all. There’s also the tension with Fisk.
In Episode 2, Matt’s journey to becoming Daredevil again feels inevitable. When cops attack him, he is forced to fight back. And if Fisk knew that Matt has yet again returned to his vigilante life, he might expose Matt’s identity to the world.
If Matt’s identity gets outed, what’s left for him in New York? After dealing with Fisk, Matt could be forced to leave the city for good.
This would make perfect sense within the broader MCU context too. There are too many heroes in New York. Plus, the West Coast could be just the fresh start Matt needs after everything he’s been through.
