Brother Sam was a character in Dexter Season 6, whose tragic fate prompted protagonist Dexter Morgan to do a rethink on his principles. Brother Sam, born Samuel Wright, was a convict who went on to become a man of faith. He was 5’9” tall, had a rugged look and a goatee, wore glasses, and was usually seen in work coveralls or casual jackets and jeans. Mos Def played Brother Sam in the show.

Sam’s transformation started during his second prison stint after he almost killed a fellow inmate in a chapel, in a fit of rage. A ray of sunlight illuminated the room at that moment, and Sam was seen reflecting on his actions. He felt the ray of light signalled divine intervention and decided to mend his ways.

Upon release, Sam became a preacher and spent time helping people. He opened an auto shop where he would employ former convicts, to let them have a shot at a better life. Despite initial skepticism from the police and community, Sam remained committed to his new life.
