Dexter throughout the eight seasons has given its fandom several remarkable villains who can never escape from the protagonist’s radar. However, there are moments when unexpected people cross his path.
One such person is Stanley Liddy. In season 5, episode 11 titled Hop a Freighter, Liddy finds his end at the hands of Dexter.
Dexter Morgan, played by the remarkable Michael C. Hall, is a blood spatter analyst with the Miami Police Department. He is known to follow strict rules known as the 'Code of Harry' while in his vigilante serial killer mode.
The guidelines, created by his detective father Harry Morgan were put in place to help with Dexter’s innate need to kill. One of the rules is to ‘never kill an innocent person’.
While Dexter’s victims are mostly criminals, he has broken the rules quite a few times in unforeseen situations. Liddy was one of the unintentional victims.
Who is Stanley Liddy?
Peter Weller played the role of Liddy, a corrupt officer in the Miami Police Department. He often comes off as an arrogant and cunning man.
Liddy was arrested and fired for his dishonest activities after a sting operation. In season 5, Detective Joey Quinn, who works in the homicide division of the Miami Metro, is suspicious of Dexter and is trying to find dirt on him.
He hires Liddy to spy on Dexter. As the investigations go on, Liddy becomes fixated on Dexter’s goings-on.
What did Dexter do to Liddy?
During his investigation, Liddy discovers that Dexter has been working with Lumen Pierce. Liddy manages to take some photos of them dumping black bags into the ocean as evidence.
Liddy uses Quinn’s name to illegally get surveillance equipment from the police department. Dexter discovers the same and decides to handle Quinn himself. Meanwhile, Quinn asks Liddy to stop the investigations, but he continues to follow Dexter. Liddy believes that if he is able to bring forth Dexter’s criminal records, he will be reinstated.
Dexter sets out to find Quinn but instead ends up with Liddy in a van. Liddy demands Dexter to confess to his crimes but he refuses to do so. Liddy even offers to let Pierce go Scot-free if Dexter owns up to his crimes. However, in an act of self-defense, Dexter ends up killing Liddy in a parked van.
Quinn was outside the van, but he did not hear anything. Dexter quietly takes the evidence gathered by Liddy and leaves the crime scene. Though Quinn is arrested for allegedly killing Liddy, he is later released with the help of Dexter.
