Dexter: Resurrection has added Neil Patrick Harris to its star-studded cast, which already includes Krysten Ritter, Uma Thurman, and Peter Dinklage. Harris will portray a character named Lowell, though details about his role remain under wraps. Meanwhile, fans are left wondering how the series will continue, given that Dexter: New Blood seemingly ended with Dexter’s death at the hands of his son.
Those who saw New Blood but have yet to see Dexter: Original Sin, beware of the SPOILERS. Original Sin opens right where New Blood ended. An unconscious Dexter is taken to the hospital, and revived by doctors a minute into the episode. While we don't see Hall's adult Dexter anywhere in Dexter: Original Sin, his revival in the opening moments of the show sets the stage for Dexter: Resurrection.
Neil Patrick Harris' role in Dexter: Resurrection explained:
As of now, not many details about Dexter: Resurrection are available, except for the several actors who have joined the cast of the series. The most recent addition to the cast is How I Met Your Mother's Barney Stinson, Neil Patrick Harris. Other than him actress Uma Thurman is playing a character named Charley and Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter is playing the role of Mia Lapierre.
Where Dexter: Resurrection does fall in the Dexter chronology?
The Dexter franchise has a comical habit of returning to our TV screens every few years. The original series aired its eighth and final season in 2013 after beginning in 2006. Then, November 2021 saw the return of Dexter in the form of a ten-episode miniseries titled "Dexter: New Blood".
The series for the most part (except for the finale) was regarded as a breath of fresh air as the location shifted from Miami to Iron Lake, New York. Dexter has a new opponent in New Blood, Kurt Caldwell played by Clancy Brown. Making things more complicated is the return of a grown-up Harrison played by Jack Alcott.
However, the finale of New Blood deals with the cycle of violence in Dexter's life. Thus, Dexter instructs Harrison to shoot him to break the vicious cycle, and the latter does as instructed. The town's Police Chief Angela Bishop arrives at the scene, but instead of arresting Harrison, hands him some money to leave town. She also tells him to never return and supposedly takes responsibility for shooting Dexter.
However, that's where Original Sin begins, thus retconning New Blood as the intended final chapter of Dexter's life. As of now, not many details about Dexter: Resurrection are available, except for the several actors who have joined the cast of the series. Between the returning and new cast members in Resurrection, the most exciting addition is that of Peter Dinklage, who is playing Leon Prater.
Dinklage's Leon Prater is described like this:
“A billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue.”
Based on this description, he might be the central antagonist of Resurrection.
Who stars in Resurrection?
