Showtime’s new crime thriller show, Dexter: Original Sin has been praised by fans of the original Dexter series and has also attracted a new generation of fans. The prequel series follows the story of a young Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Patrick Gibson, who has recently joined the Miami Metro Police Department as a forensic intern.

Created by Clyde Phillips, showrunner of the original Dexter series, Dexter: Original Sin focuses on the early years of Dexter’s life when he was still in the learning process of the code created by his adoptive father, Harry Morgan ( Christian Slater), to control his homicidal urge in a way that doesn’t harm innocent people. Other than this, the show also gave a glimpse of another important character from Dexter’s life- his biological brother Brian Moser (the infamous Ice Truck Killer).

Since the character of Brian Moser (Roby Attal) was brief in Season 1 which was depicted through several easter eggs, it is not revealed if we will get to see more of Brian Moser in a potential Dexter: Original Sin Season 2. However, showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed he wanted to explore more of Brian Moser’s story during a recent interview with ComicBook.com.

He said:

"Yes. He’s such a powerful presence and so important to Dexter’s life. You know, he becomes the Ice Truck Killer."

Showrunner Clyde Phillips seems open to exploring Brian Moser's story

Dexter: Original Sin debuted in December 2024 on Paramount Plus and follows the younger Dexter Morgan’s story where he is still learning to become a vigilante serial killer.

The show also focuses on Dexter’s earlier years in-depth. Furthermore, it also brought back Brian Moser, Dexter’s biological brother who escapes from being caught by the police at the end of Season 1, leaving his story unresolved as we will see him next after 15 years in Season 1 of the original Dexter series.

As there are still a lot more years between this show and the original series, more about the characters like Brian Moser can be explored which showrunner Clyde Phillips seems open to exploring as mentioned above.

Clyde Phillips also talked about the decision to bring back Brian Moser to build Dexter’s story further. He added:

"[Brian is] such a huge part of Dexter’s story and we’re building his world. Brian/Rudy became such a big part of his world, it’s a natural part of his backstory and is part of Harry’s backstory with Harry and his wife making that choice. We can’t adopt both of them. We have to separate them. That further traumatizes Brian and further explains why he became who he is and those scenes are heartbreaking."

He further added:

"The system didn’t help him at all. He was doomed. My favorite four letter F word is fate and he was fated to be this way, as is Dexter. You know, Dexter is a psychopath and trying to act normal, doing the best he can to act normal. But he’s got these undeniable urges. It might even be called a calling and he can’t ignore them."
