Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 Episode 8 finally revealed a key detail about the original Dexter series.
Episode 8 saw Dexter and Deb taking a boat ride to bring back Camille, which became an important trip for Dexter as he got a new graveyard for his victims.
In the original series, Dexter used to kill his victims, dismember their bodies, and dunk them into the depths of the ocean, which also earned him the nickname of “The Bay Harbor Butcher'', when police found his graveyard in Dexter Season 2.
Dexter: Original Sin finally confirmed why and how he chose the ocean to dispose of his bodies.
He used to bury his victim's bodies in the ocean because “Once it’s in the ocean, it’s gone forever,” which would be ideal for a serial killer like him as it would be impossible for the police to find them.
More on Dexter's burial spot in Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 in our story.
“The Bay Harbor Butcher'' origins revealed in Dexter: Original Sin Season 1
We saw the sibling duo having a bonding moment in Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 Episode 8, but it also gave Dexter a killer idea (pun intended) for a burial ground for his victims.
After Tony's arm was found by the police in Alligator Alley in the earlier episodes, Dexter knew that he could not go on dumping bodies there as it might compromise him. He knew that he needed a new place, and his sister finally gave him the inspiration for a new burial ground for his victims.
On their boat ride back, Deb throws her bracelet given by Gio in the ocean but instantly regrets it as she could have pawned it off for some money. She then says that the bracelet is 'lost forever' and cannot be retrieved, which gives Dexter an idea.
Deb's idea that “Once it’s in the ocean, it’s gone forever,” stays with him and it looks like our killer got his place of burial from then on, with many victims ending u after his ocean burial.
In addition, Camille tells Dexter that he can have her boat whenever he wants, which hints that he would have initially used it to bury his victim's bodies.
Dexter: Original Sin - Deb was the last ocean burial by her brother
In Dexter: Original Sin, Deb gives her brother the inspiration for his future burial ground. Considering that she was one of the last victims who ended up inside the ocean is deeply tragic.
In the Dexter series finale, Deb ends up in the hospital after she is shot, and doctors announce that she is brain-dead. While Quinn was visibly devastated by the news, Dexter decides to step up and mercy-kill his sister.
He knew that Deb would want to die for good rather than end up brain-dead in a hospital, which is why he pulls the plug off her life support and mercy-kills her.
He then lowers her body into the same ocean and watches her sinking slowly to the bottom, joining all the other bodies he has dumped there throughout the series.
Since he then left his serial-killing ways and settled in Oregon, Deb was the last victim who ended up inside the ocean, which is deeply tragic and symbolic of Dexter: Original Sin Episode 8.
