Not only this but the Dexter: Original Sin episode also features flashback scenes when Doris was alive and asked Harry to end his affair with Laura. The episode is filled with intrigue and drama, as Dexter decides to investigate a serial killer on his own, while his father wants him to let the detective handle the situation.

The episode titled "The Joy of Killing" opens with Dexter being informed about the double date with Sofia, Deb, and Gio. But before that, Dexter arrives at a crime scene and analyzes how the killer suffocated his victim to death.

He explains to his father and Detective Maria LaGuerta that the killer is "evolving", which means he's gradually becoming a serial killer and trying new methods. At the same time, Miami Metro is dealing with the kidnapping of Captain Spencer's son, Nicky.

Spencer's connection to this case adds to the drama in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 6. His past mistakes and tension are also highlighted in the episode. Meanwhile, Dexter ends up in an awkward situation with Sofia on a date and finds it somewhat exhausting.

He has been thinking of the serial killer Levi Reed all along, and trying to figure out how to catch him and connect the dots with previous murders. As the episode nears its end, Dexter finally manages to bring Reed to his kill room.

When Dexter asks him why he killed the victims, Levi Reed confesses to enjoying the brutal act. He even tells Dexter that both of them share similarities as they feel joy when killing someone.

Later in the Dexter: Original Sin episode, Dexter kills Reed, saying he "deserves this" end. Meanwhile, the Miami Metro Police is still working on the two connected murder cases. After killing Reed, Dexter puts his dead body inside his car's trunk and is on his way to make him the "alligator food".

While driving, Dexter thinks about what Levi Reed had told him about having similarities between them. However, he also acknowledged the fact that it's his father Harry's code that has kept him from being a "real monster" like Reed.

The worst happens when Dexter is pulled over by the cops, informing him about the active crime scene. The episode ends without revealing if the serial killer vigilante managed to dispose of the dead body.
