Episode 7 of Dexter: Original Sin had fans on the edge of their seats as the shocking truth about Captain Aaron Spencer unfolded, revealing him as not just a desperate father but also the kidnapper of his son, Nicky Spencer.

The show kept us guessing with all the twists, especially when they found Nicky's chopped-off finger. Dexter's all over that, trying to piece together what went down. With Captain Spencer's meltdown at work, it is getting harder to ignore that something's up with him.

The episode was like a love letter to Dexter fans who've been around since day one, throwing in some old-school vibes while also hinting at things audiences still don't know about. Things are heating up at Miami Metro, and not just because of Spencer's shady moves.

Dexter: Original Sin Episode 7 recap: Nicky Spencer’s case is a tricky one

Dexter: Original Sin Episode 7 puts Captain Spencer in the spotlight as he desperately tries to rescue his son. He's on a mission that's got everyone at Miami Metro on edge. They get a scary delivery: it's Nicky Spencer's finger, chopped off.

Dexter and the head of the forensic team, Chief Tanya Martin, are all over the evidence, checking it out closely. Dexter notices something weird about the way the finger was cut, like maybe the person who did it didn't know what they were doing—like they didn't want to hurt him that much. This little detail could be important for catching the kidnapper.

You can see that Captain Spencer is losing it. When Dexter tells him what he's found, the way Spencer reacts makes you think there's more going on than just a dad worried about his kid. Maybe he's got some guilty feelings, or perhaps he's hiding something big.

Dexter says this thing that gets you thinking:

“Sometimes it’s not the monster who hides, but the man who shields him.”

It makes you wonder if Spencer's only acting this way because he loves his son, or if there's some dark secret behind it all on Dexter: Original Sin.

Poor Nicky, he's trying to be tough and escape. He makes a shiv out of whatever he can get his hands on to take on his captor. But things don't go as planned, and he gets caught again.

This gives us a clue that might lead back to Captain Spencer because Dexter notices that Spencer's been acting weird and suspicious.

Easter eggs and Dexter’s new methods

This episode of Dexter: Original Sin is chock-full of references to Dexter’s past, as he thinks about different ways to get rid of bodies since his usual spot in the Everglades isn’t safe anymore. He looks into some notorious cases, like Ed Gein and John Wayne Gacy, for inspiration.

It’s interesting for fans as he stumbles upon the idea of his trademark slide trophies, which is a creepy hint at what’s to come for him. There’s also a side story going on with LaGuerta and Harry looking into some N.H.I. (No Human Involved) cases that haven’t been solved.

These cases might be connected to something bigger, and LaGuerta’s theory about a killer getting more intense lines up with what Dexter is noticing. This part of Dexter: Original Sin isn’t just interesting for what’s happening now, but it makes you wonder what kind of trouble could be ahead for Dexter and the whole Miami Metro team.

The Dexter: Original Sin episode ends with a cliffhanger when Dexter gets some blood test results that could tie Nicky’s missing finger to the person who took him. But it’s not totally clear, and it makes you wonder if there’s some kind of cover-up with Spencer. You can see Spencer is freaking out, and that makes you think he might do something crazy to keep his secrets safe.
