In this episode of The Big Bang Theory, titled The Hamburger Postulate, Leonard and his friends go to the Cheesecake Factory for the first time to have dinner. The awkward moment between Howard’s attempt to flirt and Penny rejecting it happens at the time when she tells Leonard that she didn’t know he plays the cello.
Howard includes himself in their conversation and tells Penny that he can beatbox. He says:
"If you're into music, I happen to be a human beatbox."
Penny asks if he really can beatbox, to which he shows his slightly unammusing attempt at beatboxing that does not impress Penny, and she says the following quote while rejecting him:

The Big Bang Theory episode titled, The Middle-earth Paradigm has one of the early attempts of Howard flirting with Penny. When she invites them to attend a Halloween party, the boys reach her apartment on time, whereas no one else arrives.

5) Season 1, episode 10

In The Big Bang Theory season 1 episode 10, titled The Loobenfeld Decay, Penny is about to perform in the stage production of Rent and will play the character of Mimi. She invites the boys, but after hearing her sing, Leonard quickly lies about attending a symposium that will prevent them from attending her show.
Penny hugs him before leaving, and Howard arrives and approaches to hug them, saying it is a group hug, but Penny quickly stops him from coming near her.

The episode titled The Griffin Equivalency of The Big Bang Theory follows the story of Raj being included in People’s Magazine’s 30 under 30 visionaries list.
As their dinner arrives, Leonard begins distributing them to the others while announcing the food items, and Howard gets a chance to flirt with Penny, creating an awkward moment between them. Leonard asks who ordered the dumplings, to which Penny says that it would be her. Howard comments:

2) Season 1, episode 7

In season 1, episode 7, titled The Dumpling Paradox, of The Big Bang Theory, Penny is visited by an old friend, Christy from Nebraska. While the boys are about to start their game night to play Halo, Penny goes on to visit them to complain about Christy.
As Penny comes into their apartment, Howard tries to flirt and quips:
"See a Penny, pick her up, and all the day you'll have good luck."
Penny, however, is not impressed by his innuendos and replies:

In this episode titled, The Killer Robot Instability, Howard and his friends build a robot named M.O.N.T.E. to enter a killer robot contest. Howard invites Penny to join them in the post-competition dance but is brutally rejected by Penny as he describes her as the only ‘doable’ girl. She also calls him a pig and, after being fed up with his approaches, says:
"No woman is ever going to flirt with you! You're just going to grow old and die alone!"
Later in the episode, Penny visits Howard to apologise for being too harsh to him, where she consoles him after he tells him about his numerous crushes but could never impress any one of them. To console him, Penny tells him that he is a smart and cool guy, which prompts Howard to try to kiss her. Another rejection to Howard comes when Penny punches him for trying to do that.
