The small screen has seen many adorable sitcom couples over the years, but none as David Rose (Dan Levy) and Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid) from Schitt's Creek. They started as business partners and got their happily ever after in the series finale, a perfect send-off for the sitcom.
While David and Patrick were complete opposites, their natures and habits complemented each other well, leading to an adorable on-screen romance. Patrick gave space for David to express himself, and the latter finally found the love of his life after a string of failed relationships.
Here is their relationship timeline from Schitt's Creek.
Exploring David and Patrick's relationship timeline in Schitt's Creek
1) Patrick was first introduced in Season 3 and became David's business partner
While not ideal, David and Patrick's first meet-cute was a business meeting. David first met Patrick in Schitt's Creek Season 3 Episode 8, when he had a business idea of opening a general store.
While he could not translate his visions into words, which led to a humorously awkward encounter, Patrick tried to understand him and even sent him paperwork to finish at his own pace. Their first meeting was enough to make Patrick smitten with David's quirks, and they eventually opened 'Rose Apothecary' together.
2) They had their fair share of ups and downs
After 'Rose Apothecary,' they started developing feelings for one another, which finally became legit when Patrick kissed David after the latter's birthday dinner.
They even celebrated their four-month anniversary at the motel, where David mentioned how this was the longest relationship of his life. However, things took a turn when Rachel, Patrick's college sweetheart, showed up in town to win him back.
When David realized that Patrick and Rachel were formally engaged and his boyfriend concealed this information from him, he took a break from their relationship.
3) David and Patrick eventually made up and confessed their love
While many sitcoms would have expanded the 'We are on a break' arc for their couple, Schitt's Creek did not. While David took his sweet time before coming back to Patrick, partly because he was being serenaded with gifts, the two eventually made up.
The next turning point in their relationship was when Patrick confessed his love for David in Schitt's Creek Season 4's Singles Week. While Patrick knew it would stress him out, he let his feelings be known in a perfect way:
''I love you. You're my Mariah Carey."
This could have swayed David (the Mariah Carey fan that he is), but he took his time and eventually confessed his love back to Patrick with a sweet kiss at the end of the episode.
4) Talks of moving in and a beautiful proposal
David and Patrick's relationship progressed, and Patrick eventually moved into a new apartment. While they first considered moving in together, they decided against it. Still, David spent most of his nights in Patrick's apartment, which led to some beautiful (and funny) incidents for the two that brought them closer together.
In Schitt's Creek Season 5 Episode 13, Patrick finally proposes to David by taking him on a hike at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area in Ontario. While their hike does not go as planned, and David complains the whole time (about the distance), tensions melt when Patrick gets on one knee and says that David was the 'easiest decision of his life.'
David is taken aback, and the two share a beautiful moment.
5) David and Patrick married and build a home in Schitt's Creek in the series finale
While many thought David was selfish and obnoxious in the sitcom, he proved he loved Patrick equally towards the finale. While David dreamt about moving to New York and building a life with Patrick there, he realized that his boyfriend wanted to stay in Schitt's Creek.
When David sees the little cottage Patrick bought for them outside the town, with plenty of space to grow old, he caves in and gives up on his New York dream.
They finally get married in the Schitt's Creek finale, with Moira marrying them off, and the couple finally gets their happily ever after.
