Dateline NBC is set to air a gripping new episode, “Under the Bay Bridge,” this Friday, February 7, 2025, at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT. The episode dives deep into the shocking murder of tech entrepreneur Bob Lee, a case that stunned Silicon Valley and made headlines worldwide.

The Dateline investigation, led by correspondent Josh Mankiewicz, will feature exclusive interviews with Lee’s family, friends, lawyers, colleagues, and law enforcement officials. The documentary will walk viewers through the disturbing chain of events leading to Lee’s tragic death.

Bob Lee was a well-known tech visionary, respected in the industry for his contributions. His sudden and brutal death left the tech world in shock.

Lee was stabbed twice in the chest on the night of April 4, 2023. One of the wounds pierced his heart, leading to his death during emergency surgery.

The murder weapon? A kitchen paring knife taken from the home of the suspect’s sister.

Who killed Bob Lee?

The man convicted of his murder is Nima Momeni, another tech entrepreneur. However, unlike Lee, Momeni wasn’t as successful.

The two met earlier that day, and later that night, things took a dark turn. The details of what exactly led to the murder remain unclear, but after a two-month trial, a jury found Momeni guilty of second-degree murder in December 2024.

A key detail in the case was that Momeni did not appear to have planned the murder in advance. While he intended to hurt or scare Lee, the jury didn’t see enough evidence to prove that he deliberately planned to kill him.

Momeni has been sentenced to 16 years of life imprisonment, and his legal team has already announced that they will appeal the conviction.

Dateline’s coverage will include emotional interviews with:

  • Krista Lee (Bob Lee’s ex-wife), who describes receiving multiple late-night calls from the hospital.
  • Tim “Oliver” Lee (Bob’s brother), who was very vocal during the court proceedings.

The Lee family is not stopping at the criminal trial. They plan to file a civil lawsuit against Momeni and his family, alleging that they helped cover up the crime.

The teaser for the episode suggests that Dateline might show never-before-seen video footage from the night of the murder. If true, this could shed new light on the case.

One of the more controversial aspects of the case is its connection to drugs and partying. There were reports of cocaine, GHB (a party drug), and Whip-Its (nitrous oxide) being involved in the events leading up to the murder.

The big question is, Will Dateline cover this angle, or will they leave it out?

Another interesting element is whether Dateline will show the now-famous tweet by Elon Musk, where he wrongly assumed that Lee had been stabbed by a random street criminal.

With all these angles, Dateline’s “Under the Bay Bridge” promises to be an eye-opening episode. Whether it brings new details or simply re-examines the case, one thing is certain, this is a story that still has many unanswered questions.
